C'mon ... really ...... how much success does the Yellow Pages get when they have Joe from Bangalore
call and try to sell you ad space in their increasingly irrelevant tome?

I recall, when we actually bought such ads, discussing it with someone who knew what I was talking about when I discussed the ads placed by similar businesses to mine. I recall hearing him regal me with success stories about the gas station at which I had my car serviced or the dry cleaners who pressed my pantz.

Now I answer the phone, immediately suspicious from seeing "Out of Area" on the called ID, picking up the phone and hearing a babble of voices as the satellite signals got a bit crossed, and then a click and clearing as "Joe"FromBangalore comes on to try to sell me ad space in the "New Yellow Pages".

Hey Joe .... you guys still working out of that office over on Rt 37?

How much success can be enjoyed by a boiler room half way around the world, trying to sell an essentially local service?

I sold meat freezer plans from a boiler room for a few months when I was in high school. It was a shit job, but it paid. How much more would it cost the New Yellow Pages to have that back? You know ..... local kids being paid to sell local services to local businesses. Forget the annoyance. Imagine the positive PR if a company did this.

1. Not to go off subject, but I'm amazed phone books are still in
business. How many people actually use a phone book these days? Mine goes right in the trash as soon as I get it.
