Poll question: Is the world going to hell in a handbasket?
Even a mayoral candidate and council man is walking away from a mortgage! :wow:

Detroit councilman walks away from mortgage
Candidate for mayor saw value of home tumble as payment set to rise

DETROIT - It was their dream home, a two-story, four-bedroom colonial in one of Detroit's nicest and most stable neighborhoods.

But then, one day in December, City Councilman Kwame Kenyatta and his wife packed up their belongings, locked the doors, mailed in the keys and walked away — adding another vacant house to the thousands in a city hard hit by the nation's mortgage crisis.

"We're already underwater when it comes to what we're paying on the house versus what the house is worth," Kenyatta said.

4. 75 homes listed in that area ... quite a few (41) foreclosures.

It's a relatively nice area, actually. Thirty years ago it was very desirable. It's not far (about 1 mile) from where my first wife lived when I met her and my first love before that, in Northwest Detroit.

7. I have a rule.
I only use that expression when the republicans are in the White House.

I did not know that I had that rule until my daughter pointed it out to me.

She observed one day, while Clinton was in office and the economy was booming, that I had stopped talking about hell and hand baskets. She supposed things must be all right. She noticed over the last eight years that I had started using the expression again. Of course, now she is old enough to understand why I use the expression.

It is going to get rougher. It has affected my household, too. But I think things will be all right.
