This is just Horrible
Mom suspected of killing daughter, stabbing fetus
Denise Lavoie, Associated Press Writer – Fri Apr 17, 5:11 pm ET

QUINCY, Mass. – Fang Chi-Xue's neighbors in her modest Quincy neighborhood didn't know her well. Once in a while, they would see her outside with her children. She would wave and say hello politely in Mandarin. On Friday, Chi-Xue lay in a hospital bed after she allegedly killed her 9-year-old daughter, tried to strangle her 14-year-old daughter and stabbed herself in the abdomen, killing her unborn fetus.

Chi-Xue, 38, who was 7 1/2 months pregnant, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and assault with intent to murder.

Authorities were awaiting the results of an autopsy before deciding whether she would be charged with a second count of murder in the death of her unborn baby.

David Traub, a spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney William Keating, said the timeline of the violence was still uncertain, but said Chi-Xue's husband came home to find the 9-year-old dead after receiving a call at work from his 14-year-old daughter. He called 911, and police arrived about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Traub said the 14-year-old girl suffered minor injuries when her mother tried to strangle her. The 9-year-old girl, Wen Xue, suffered stab wounds to her wrists, and authorities were also investigating whether she was poisoned "based on some indications at the scene," Traub said.

1. 3 girls,
because I'm guessing the fetus was female as well.

3. Not sure about that
QUINCY, Mass. – A Massachusetts woman suspected of killing one of her daughters and her unborn child tried to kill the fetus two months earlier by drinking poison, according to police.

Fang Chi-Xue "had attempted to end her pregnancy by consuming a toxic substance," according to police report filed at Quincy District Court.

The Boston Globe reported Saturday that the woman's attempt on the life of her fetus prompted a February visit from the Department of Children and Families. The department determined the children could remain in the home because there was a second caretaker and an understanding the mother would get proper medical care, spokeswoman Alison Goodwin said in a statement.

On Thursday, Chi-Xue killed the unborn child and her 9-year-old daughter and tried to strangle her 14-year-old daughter, who fought her off at the family home in Quincy, just south of Boston, authorities said.

Goodwin told the Globe the department is investigating its handling of the case and "working to support the family." She declined further comment, citing the criminal investigation.

9. As usual
We had a couple incidence here where the children were killed just after DCS returned them to the sick Drug Addicted parents

DCS maintained the position "Drug Addiction was a seperate issue from parenting"

tell that one to the dead kids

10. Somebody did.
Apparently from another story there had been a fight before the husband left for work.

However, this lady was so close to the edge that a run in her stocking would have done it, too.

I can't imagine hating anyone that much.

One poison drinking episode should have had her hospitalized while doctors tried to figure out what was really going on. Perhaps when we live in a rational culture where caring for people trumps insurance company cost containment, future cases will be treated this way.

Instead, a viable fetus and a 9 year old child are dead and a 14 year old will spend the rest of her life wondering what was so horrible about her that her own mother tried to kill her.

This whole thing just makes me terribly sad.

4. I'd say it was a cultural problem.
She's 38, and as I'm guessing, with 3 girls. Her husband may have been very angry about that, and certainly she'd feel guilty if that's what this is about.

May not be of course, but that's the first thing that struck me.

5. Does Quincy, Massachusetts, have a one-child policy?

7. Cultural issue = no male child
In Eastern cultures this is a very difficult situation for a mother. She often is made to feel guilt by her husband, in-laws, and society in general.

8. I agree.
3 daughters and no sons would make her worthless if the eastern culture is very strong in this family. She'd be a failure.
