The Worst Mass School Murderer in the History of the US? A Right Wing Nut:
The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, USA, on May 18, 1927, which killed 45 people and injured 58. Most of the victims were children in the second to sixth grades (7-12 years of age) attending the Bath Consolidated School. Their deaths constitute the deadliest act of mass murder in a school in U.S. history.

The perpetrator was school board member Andrew Kehoe, who was upset by a property tax that had been levied to fund the construction of the school building. He blamed the additional tax for financial hardships which led to foreclosure proceedings against his farm. These events apparently provoked Kehoe to plan his attack.

1. He was also a moron too
"All the Kehoe farm buildings were destroyed, and the animals trapped inside the barn had perished. The amount of unused equipment and materials on the farm could have easily paid off the Kehoes' mortgage."

4. I taught in Bath when I first graduated from college.
In the schoolyard there is/was a beautiful statue of a little girl holding a kitten as a monument to all the children who were killed. Thanks for posting the link for this. I didn't know the whole story about the disaster until I read it. I did know that James Couzens donated a considerable amount of money (at that time) for the rebuilding fund. Is the highway in the Detroit area still named for James Couzens?

10. Yes, part of US 10, also called John C. Lodge
and Northwestern Hwy. is still referred to on maps as James Couzens Fwy.

5. Dynamite and hundreds of pounds of pyrotol ...
Pyrotol was an explosive available for a time after World War I. It was reprocessed from military surplus cordite and smokeless powder. Usually used in combination with dynamite, it created an incendiary blast. Since it was very inexpensive, it was often used by farmers to remove tree stumps and clear ditches. Production of pyrotol dwindled in the 1920s after the Bath School disaster where the substance was used to blow up an elementary school and kill 45 people, mostly children. It is likely that production would have dwindled soon anyway, as supplies of military surplus powders ran out.

8. Here was the warning about this nutjob everyone missed....
Neighbors also recounted how Kehoe was cruel to his farm animals, having once beaten a horse to death.
