Final thought on the teabaggers - what we need is media reform NOW
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 04:03 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
No president is ever going to be able to unite this country as long as monied interests of one party are able to buy up all the radio stations and broadcast 24/7 hate-filled propaganda demonizing 50% of the nation.

That's why you have people so angry, even though they don't know exactly why. They've come to view the other party as inhuman and simply can't accept the concept of anyone outside their point of view being legitimately in office.

The paranoid, ugly atmosphere you saw today is the logical result of 23+years of rightwing dominance of the airwaves.

It's time to break up these monopolies and let countering views be heard.

The airwaves belong to the public and were not intended to be used as an exclusive organizing tool for the fringe right

1. Divestment and re-regulation (including the fairness doctrine) is long overdue

Without it, America will remain the a culture where lies are elevated to the same prominence as facts- and people will keep dumbing down to ever lower levels.

2. That makes me wonder ...
... were any of the tea baggers complaining about media monopolies? They seem to know that libruls control the media, yet not one of them bothered to protest it.

In fact, none of the protesters were worried that the librul media would ignore them.

I wonder why that is?

Where does their confidence that the media would cover their protests come from? How were they so sure that the media was going to cover this event? They had so many different factions out there, why were none of them against the librul media that they seem so eager to blame for everything??

12. ,,,,well they were confident that they would have
coverage because the whole charade was promoted by the media. Even MSNBC and Keith and Rachel have spent many days in anticipation and coverage. As far as I can see, it was just another over-hyped media event.

4. They Did More Harm To Their Cause Than Good
Unless you live Faux 24/7, the rest of the media, including the corporate media, turned this PR stunt into a national joke. Millions were laughing at, not protesting with these asshats...further disconnecting both their "causes" and the rushpublican party from the majority.

There is a definite need for revisiting Telcom '96 that allowed large corporations to monopolize the public airwaves and drive it into the ground. The irony is many of these companies are in deep financial shit and can't unload stations either due to a lack of "qualified" buyers or getting a bank to float a loan. They're choking on their own greed.

6. I am amazed at the number of regional tea party sites on Facebook.
I don't think these morons are going away anytime soon.

8. Then Enjoy The Show...
Much of what went on yesterday was astroturfed...a well coordinated PR job by con men who've been pulling this crap for years. While some people are caught up in the right wing hysteria, much of it is manufactured...down to hiring people to post on social sites like Facebook and Myspace, writing letters to the editor, calling hate radio shows and so on.

No, they're not going away and the further they get from power the more outrageous they become. Their stunts ring hollow with the most important audience...those who do the electing. Definitely keep an eye on their antics, but never miss a chance to laugh and ridicule.

11. Oh and how funny
that these idiots are protesting now about the huge deficit.Obama just merely put the war on the books and made it legit. At least Obama debt that he is creating is producing something good, war is just destructive.Plus it is their idiot prez that let the big banks get away with what they did and made Obama have to try to save the economy once he was in.
