A word from Iowa and Gay Marriage
Edited on Sun Apr-05-09 08:38 AM by Peacetrain
As most of you know, Iowa through its court system has upheld the right of marriage for gay unions.

What you may NOT know is that 2 of the 7 justices who supported (unanimously) the rights of gay couples to marry in Iowa, are Republican appointees.

In fact:

Supreme Court Justice Mark Cady, who wrote the unanimous decision, was appointed to the court in 1998 by former Republican Gov. Terry Branstad.

Edit: I included these facts for all, so when you start to hear the swan song of liberal activist judges, you can clarify the situation.

2. I believe Chief Justice Turness is also a Brandstad appointee.
On a related note. A couple years ago when California also handed down a unanimous decision in favor of equal protection of the law, their decision was unanimous. Of the 7 justices on the California, I believe at least 5 maybe 6 were Republican appointees. California governors have included the likes of Pete Wilson and George Dukmagian - hardly left wing radicals. Oh and Arnie.

6. Thank you, thank you, thank you...
The "activist judges" meme has all ready been thrown out there by the Fundies.

I appreciate, very much that you posted this information.

The only way to combat their lunacy is with fact.

Thank you
