It isn’t enough that the Big 3 tells us in their ads that their cars are as good as the imported ones (with so many more years experience in the auto business, they should actually be way better), now when they break the government will guarantee the warranty.
I’m not sure it’s a good thing for taxpayers to be paying for upkeep and repairs on someone else’s vehicle because it breaks. Who pays for the breakage on older cars driven by poor people who couldn’t buy a new one with the government (taxpayer) warranty?

To encourage Americans to buy cars from GM and Chrysler in the meantime, Obama said the government will stand behind the two companies' warranties. Obama also pledged to pursue a scheme for encouraging people to trade in their old cars for new ones, and he appointed a senior official to "cut through red tape" and deliver aid to hard-pressed auto towns. These are all welcome measures.
