Seeing credit cards being rejected in the check out lines.
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 07:53 PM by arcadian
Just at evil Wal-Mart, this guy was well dressed, card denied. Said he needed to go to his car and get another card, cashier waited for him, he didn't come back. Seen it at the gas station and at the grocery store a few times too.

2. Why do you go to "evil Wal-Mart" at all? Just curious. I haven't been
in one for 5 years.

6. Because I want the system to collapse
and shopping at Wal-Mart is just my small contribution. :D

7. Walmart is a necessity for me.
I'm handicapped, can't walk very far or stand for long. Walmart is one of the few places well equipped with electric shopping carts so I can navigate around the store and buy the things I need.

16. Good reason to shop at Walmart. I'm just a young 'un,though. I'm 76.
I do most of my shopping on-line or catalogue because I'm just plain lazy.

10. I understand that.
A credit card is a piece of flotsam floating when you're about to drown. Of course people will grab it. You can say 'well, they shouldn't have got in a situation where they could drown', but that is SO for another thread (the short answer of which would be- some did and some didn't).

The times are right to bring out this old song:

"Low Budget", the Kinks

Cheap is small and not too steep
But best of all cheap is cheap
Circumstance has forced my hand
To be a cut price person in a low budget land
Times are hard but we'll all survive
I just got to learn to economize

I'm on a low budget
I'm on a low budget
I'm not cheap, you understand
I'm just a cut price person in a low budget land
Excuse my shoes they don't quite fit
They're a special offer and they hurt me a bit
Even my trousers are giving me pain
They were reduced in a sale so I shouldn't complain
They squeeze me so tight so I can't take no more
They're size 28 but I take 34

I'm on a low budget
What did you say
I'm on a low budget
I thought you said that

I'm on a low budget
I'm a cut price person in a low budget land

I'm shopping at Woolworth and low discount stores
I'm dropping my standards so that I can buy more

So I'm giving up all of my expensive tastes.
Caviar and champagne are definite no's,
I'm acquiring a taste for brown ale and cod roes ]

Low budget sure keeps me on my toes
I count every penny and I watch where it goes
We're all on our uppers we're all going skint
I used to smoke cigars but now I suck polo mints

I'm on a low budget
What did you say
Yea I'm on a low budget
I thought you said that
I'm on a low budget
I'm a cut price person in a low budget land
I'm on a low budget
Low budget
Low budget

Art takes time, time is money
Money's scarce and that ain't funny
Millionaires are things of the past
We're in a low budget film where nothing can last
Money's rare there's none to be found
So don't think I'm tight if I don't buy a round

I'm on a low budget
What did you say
Yes I'm on a low budget
I thought you said that
I'm on a low budget
I'm a cut price person in a low budget land
I'm on a low budget
Say it again
Low budget
One more time
Low budget

I'll have you all know, I was once a toff
At least my hair is all mine, my teeth are my own,
But everything else is on permanent loan.
Once all my clothes were made by hand,
Now I'm a cut price person in a low budget land.
I'm on a low budget
I'll have you all know
We're on a low budget
I'm on a low budget]

Still, it's a humorous song, and better to get a few laughs on the way to the bottom.

Makes me like the idea of returning back to Atlanta from whence I came (by way of TN in between).

26. That's special too! In my small town, WM is the only place to go
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 09:47 PM by Obamanaut
for some things. An example is baby goods - no other store has anything for babies. There are only two other stores with groceries. There is no public transportation to get to the next closest town (26 miles.)

No other store has men's jeans, shirts, work clothes, undergarments. They have the only bicycles and toys for kids.

But. We get by.

edited to add a couple more items that we don't have a choice in where to purchase.

27. Can I recommend the latest South Park and the episode called
"Margaritaville?" It nails the economy's ins and outs and I especially like how the credit card saves the day at the end.

I think you can google it and watch on line.

used three different cards to pay for her order & ended up putting some of it back.
