I Think President Obama Should Replace arne duncan, Period
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 01:36 PM by Dinger
Definitely a disturbing article here:

http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/20050

" University of Illinois at Chicago education professor Kevin Kumashiro notes that Duncan's Chicago policies have been "steeped in a free-market model of school reform" that feeds the drop-out rate, increases segregation, and does little if anything to increase student achievement. "Duncan's track record is clear," says Kumashiro: "Less parental and community involvement in school governance. Less support for teacher unions. Less breadth and depth in what and how students learn as schools place more emphasis on narrow high-stakes testing. More penalties for schools but without adequate resources for those in high-poverty areas." (Kumashiro 2008). . . . "

From December 2008 (I know).

Oh, and the repukes LOVE him:

"Duncan is part of a new breed of school administrator whose minds have not been poisoned by working in the classroom.

Poisoned? Words fail me.

1. I'll go one further.
I think he should replace Duncan, and apologize to the nation for appointing him to begin with.

If he must, Linda Darling Hammond would be a better choice.

If he really wants some profound positive change, he could go with one of these:

of those with connections to Obama, with the possible exception of Ayers.

There are some better (imo, lol) choices that Obama has not chosen to associate himself with.

I would have been relatively content with Darling Hammond.

Instead, I'm infuriated and up in arms, and likely to remain so for the duration, over that POS Duncan.

9. "Less parental and community involvement in school governance."
That mindset absolutely killed the school system I attended for 12 years, and by extension, the city and the surrounding area. And the school system where my children attended lives for teaching to the test. They can pass the state exams just dandy. But beyond that...don't ask.

This attitude is precisely what we don't want in an education secretary.

10. Meh. The Feds don't provide...
...even 10% of the money used to run public schools. There's little substantive harm Duncan can do, and little help someone else could. A little more, a little less bully-pulpit, that's all.

The real action is at the state-legislature level.

11. Can you imagine the outcry if he had appointed a socialist to oversee Wall St?
Why should we accept a no-qualifications scammer as ed secretary?
