Is "feigned obtusity" a real term?
I just made it up. It seems to fit these grandstanding Congressional assholes on teevee today.

The objects of their feigned outrage are asked questions. Big questions with necessarily complicated answers.

The questioners are clearly not interested in the actual answers. Were they, they would not be interrupting the questionee attempting an answer and instead, to continue their bloviating.

Instead, they feign a lack of understanding and use that feint to go back to gassing off.

HOW ABOUT ASKING REAL QUESTIONS IN SEARCH OF REAL SOLUTIONS ....... you dumb fucks.

1. We already know the answers to the real questions.
That's why it's a dog and pony show.

Always is.

4. This has to have been inspired by Michele "Sexin' It Up Like Palin!" Bachmann, about an hour ago.
I could be wrong -- I turned it off when she was done, because I figured it couldn't get any better than that.

9. They have contunued to fail to acquit themselves well.
Bachmann was the dumbest (what's new?) but far from the worst. The real 'worsts' are the one's who actually understand this shot, could be helpful, in fact, but choose, instead, to grandstand.

Capuano is a good example.

The fuckwaddery today crosses party lines.

12. That's a good point -- I know that Bachmann will always have liquid stupid coming out of her mouth,
but when people use this kind of thing to grandstand or advance a totally separate agenda, it becomes a mockery.

8. I would use "obtuseness"
rather than "obtusity"

But it's a pretty good phrase. I may even use it.
Thanks.

13. I chose the incorrect "obtusity" over the correct "obtuseness" for its capacity to .......
..... jar the ear, and thereby get greater attention.

10. It is now
I read the term and immediately thought of Fredo in front of a congressional committee not recalling any thing.

It communicates wit words, therefore is language.

11. Is "obtusity" a more modern way of saying "obtuseness?"
Being deliberately obtuse isn't uncommon, though. Public figures do it all the time.

is what I've been calling it for many years now. It's endemic among conservatives and wingnuts.

20. Congratulations, You merit a Humpty Dumpty Award

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'

25. My constituents back home
are outraged by all of this, yes, outraged. They are good hard-working people; they elected me, so by definition they are good people. It would be remiss of me not to express to you the outrage that they are feeling at the present time.

And to you Mr. Stinky I have to say: this is an outrage. When I first heard of this I was outraged. And if you are offended by this, well, offense was intended, and I think my offense is justified in the face of this outrage.

Now, let me ask you the following question. I know I could have spent 30 seconds Googling the answer earlier today, but I wanted to personally express my outrage to you. Oh what's that Mr Chairman- I'm out of time? Well can I still ask my question please? No? Well, that's just an outrage.
