Making excuses for a cop killer...
Lovelle Mixon was depressed...because as a felon on parole for armed robbery he couldn't find a job...he also couldn't seem to meet his parole conditions. It wasn't his fault! Poor Lovelle. He didn't want to go back to jail...

He should have never been out of jail.

So when he was pulled over, he decided to end 4 police officers lives.

A true POS.

Family: Suspect in Oakland cop deaths feared jail

By TERRY COLLINS and LISA LEFF – 1 hour ago

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Relatives of the man suspected of fatally shooting three Oakland police officers said Sunday the 26-year-old parolee was frustrated about not finding work and feared returning to jail.

The suspect Lovelle Mixon was slain in a gunfight with police during which two officers were killed Saturday, authorities said. Another officer was fatally shot earlier in the day and a fourth gravely wounded after the two of them pulled Mixon over for a routine traffic stop, police said.

Mixon's family gathered Sunday at his grandmother's East Oakland home, where he had stayed on and off since being released from a nine-month sentence for a parole violation, family members said.

He had previously served six years in state prison for assault with a firearm during an armed robbery in San Francisco, the family said. While he was in Corcoran state prison, he married his childhood girlfriend, they said.

Mixon's uncle, 38-year-old Curtis Mixon of Fremont, said his nephew had become depressed because he could not find work as a convicted felon. His nephew expected authorities to issue an arrest warrant for missing parole meetings, even though the he felt he was not to blame, he said.

"I think his frustration was building up, but he was trying to better himself," Curtis Mixon said.

1. Confusingly, I haven't read any sympathizing with the shooter here (yet)...
Most folks see it as the all-around tragedy it is.

4. i agree, utter crap reporting
and i swear every frigging time, some guy is shot by the police, or shoots police, etc. they HAVE to interview some family member who INVARIABLY says

"I think his frustration was building up, but he was trying to better himself,"

or words almost exactly the same.

every

frigging

time

it is such ridiculous "reporting". what do you expect a family member to say ? "he was a piece of shit who deserved to die like a dog?"

and there is always that "he was trying to turn his life around" etc.

i had a friend murdered by a piece of garbage convicted felon and the exact same quote was used.

it's just so NOT "reporting".

for fuck's sake, the guy was a convicted violent felon and was carrying a firearm at the time he was pulled over by the police.

i'm sorry, but that's not "turning your life around".

5. He was a low life piece a shit that's for sure and he should not have been out of jail
but he was probably released in order to make room for some kids caught smoking weed.

And the way this economy is going this won't be the last incident like this.

9. If he feared jail, he should've just taken his own life.
Instead of killing four innocents.

"As for the slain shooting suspect, Hege said, "The man was evidently terribly desperate. It is a sad story."

"Reached by telephone, Dr. John S. Hege said his son was attached to a ventilator and "looks fine" except for a black eye behind which the bullet was lodged."

That isn't "making excuses". It is accepting that this is a shitty world sometimes and shitty things happen.

In an adult and mature manner.

13. An adult and mature manner?
Let me tell you something...

I lost my son a year ago. It was sudden. For a few days I was completely rational and calm. I was in shock. Then I crashed. And I'm still grieving...

Dr. Hege may be a man who (by profession) is used to seeing death. He seems to be handling it well. But I'll bet you that in a very short time his demeanor will change. He will feel anger, sorrow, rage, fear, and a whole multitude of emotions.

And it won't look or sound very "adult and mature"....

12. Another argument against parole
He had already done 9 months on a parole violation, and he was about to be nailed again for the same damn thing. Clearly, the guy didn't learn.

People on parole aren't supposed to have guns.

I am in mind of the best final line in any movie, ever:

From "Jagged Edge," the Robert Loggia detective character says of the now-dead murderer who had gotten away with it, "Fuck him. He was trash."

14. The tragedy of dumb and dumberer...
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 10:48 PM by LooseWilly
I knew a hustler once, when I was driving a cab in Oakland. He was fresh out of jail, and he was paying me to drive him to the parole office off 73rd Ave... and he was bitching about how they were making him take drug tests.
The next week he needed a ride again, and he was bitching about how his piss had come up dirty... "It's bullshit, I'm not even using. All I was doing was bagging up the coke..."

The dumb is everywhere you look.

And now it turns out that this is just a simple messy-assed case of "Dumb bastard panicked".

Meanwhile OPD has a regular pattern of setting up traffic stops on a random stretch of road, and commencing with collecting revenue. Two motorcycle cops at 74th and MacArthur, police substation 2 blocks away or not, is a gamble. Like the time I saw them do it at 90th and E.14th. Or even 23rd and E.14th. Or 65th and San Pablo.
I'm almost surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Tragedy.
Dumb and dumberer... and I can't say which is which.

On the other hand, I personally am sick of people calling the dumbshit a "piece of shit". Cheney is a "piece of shit". To compare this penny ante dumbshit with Cheney is an insult to the very act of comparing.

18. The craziest "excuse" I ever heard for someone pulling a gun on the cops.....
....."They singled him out because he was a white kid driving a nice looking car late at night.".

This was a case that happened in my area a few years ago and I just sat there like "Whaaaa?". I had to run it back on the TiVo a few times just to comprehend it.

19. Yes, he is a POS.
I no sooner make excuses for politically expedient purposes than I make them for right-wing ignorance.

To hell with this cop-killer and to hell with anyone who would imagine me a hypocrite for saying so.
