In e-mail blast, Ingraham calls Meghan McCain a ‘useful idiot.’

In an e-mail message today titled “useful idiot watch,” right-wing talker Laura Ingraham sends a “Memo to Meghan McCain,” claiming that her “plus-sized” attack was just “one satirical line” that the left is now using “to malign outspoken conservatives.” Ingraham claims that “indignation” over her “off-the-cuff remark” is “manufactured and totally phony“:

The left’s indignation in this instance is manufactured and totally phony. If any off-the-cuff remark about a woman’s size was condemnable, then where was the outrage when President Obama made a passing reference to Jessica Simpson’s “weight battle” during his Super Bowl interview with Matt Lauer? And of course they look the other way when obvious personal attacks are levied against conservatives. Remember when Al Franken was the toast of all media for his book “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot”? Last month The View’s Joy Behar called him a “fat guy”; and when I was a guest on The View a few years back she ridiculed Ann Coulter and me as “peroxide” blondes on Fox. I laughed it off. If you can’t stand the heat…get out of the punditry business.

In a nod to ThinkProgress, Ingraham closes her e-mail by encouraging her readers to “click here to listen to the entire segment from March 13th, instead of the version that was edited and sent around by left wing smearmongers.”

It is startling how many RW talk show people should have been labeled as dysfunctional and given the help they obviously needed. I would hope that these stories would cause guys to think a second time before dating her.

Meghan McCain's response to this humanized her after a political campaign did the opposite. I think people she a person who didn't ask for this type of insult. Though many in the country have come to accept this type of insult against public figures (which is sad), McCain is simply a woman who stood with her dad as he ran for President. In addition to their obnoxiousness, Ingraham's comments are problematic in a culture that pushes many to anorexia.

So this wench is just trying to milk some PR...her star has faded fast in recent years and she's trying to grab a page from the right wing/Rushbo club in her bid to be the bitterest and most strident.

of the minute--wrong, I'd say (I'm a big girl, I stick up for the big girls), but not quite on the level of mean-spirited and irrelevant as what Laura Ingraham tried to do.

Obama has no beef with Jessica Simpson that I know about. If Joy Behar wants to call Rush Limbaugh a "fat guy"--she's doing it a comedian, and really, who is he, anyway? (Try, everybody knows who he is and what he's about.) Same as the Franken argument (although if they ever seat him as senator, he might want to cut back on that kind of disourse. Just to avoid the hassle.)

So let's give Ingraham this: she might be a real blonde, not "peroxide blonde." But whenever I hear something about her, it always comes down to being mean-spirited and shallowly partisan. Her slight against Meghan Mccain isn't an exception to that. If she doesn't agree with someone, she could just: disagree. Argus why the person is wrong. In this case it's dumb, because McCain expressed an opinion, and while she's somebody's kid and a blogger, like, so what? Reasonable people can disagree, right? But actually pointing out that McCain is not thin (um, so?) as if that made her somehow more wrong, is weirdly personal and unnecessary.

Also, pointing out other people as having made weight or personal comments is equally irrelevant. Deflecting the comments about herself by saying "other people do it" is a bad defence. Other people can lie, steal and set dumpsters on fire, too. It doesn't make it right.
