Smuggling Boat Intercepted By Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal

SAN DIEGO -- Twenty-two people were detained Monday morning by the U.S. Coast Guard just northwest of the U.S./Mexican border, a press release from the Coast Guard said.

At about 2:15 a.m. the Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal noticed a boat that did not have any lights on and was traveling at varying speeds.

The crew of the Narwhal launched a small boat to investigate, according to the press release.

The Cutter Narwhal is an 87-foot patrol boat based out of Corona Del Mar, Calif.
