Pakistan's Long March Is 'Prelude To Revolution': Sharif
Source: Thaindian

Islamabad, March 15 (IANS) Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif Sunday called the protest march to Islamabad a “prelude to revolution”, as the country remained gripped in an intensifying political crisis.

“It’s a rare moment of Pakistan’s history. It’s prelude to revolution,” Sharif told Geo TV in a telephonic interview as he led the lawyers’ rally at the GPO Chowk in Lahore.

The rally was to leave for Islamabad as planned and Sharif said his address to the rally at the GPO Chowk was called off due to unavailability of loudspeakers.

Sharif said the country needed a system purely based on justice.

“No one has authority to defy the constitution, snub the parliament and decide the fate of people,” Geo TV quoted him as saying.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, who is backed by thousands of supporters in his march, asked the judges appointed by former president Pervez Musharraf in November 2007 to step down.

He said the long march was aimed at restoring the deposed judges, including former Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhury, and ensuring justice in the country.

1. Zardari not to step down, says spokesman
Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has no intention of stepping down and there is no possibility of an Army takeover due to the worsening political crisis sparked by a countrywide protest by lawyers and opposition parties, a Presidential spokesman said on Sunday.

Mr. Zardari will not step down as there is no reason for him to resign, spokesman Farhatullah Babar said. The long march launched by the lawyers and opposition parties is aimed at dislodging the government led by the Pakistan People's Party but it will not succeed, he added.

Mr. Babar also ruled out the possibility of the Pakistan Army stepping in to take over the administration.

"Why would he (Zardari) step down? He has been elected in accordance with the constitution by the electoral college comprising all the provincial assemblies and the parliament," Mr. Babar told Dawn News channel.

"If the Constitution of Pakistan stays, if the country stays, there is no reason for the President to step aside and to resign. Let us therefore dispel this impression — he will not resign. There is no question of that," he said.

3. "A system purely based on (military) justice."
Sorry, had to correct the error.

Sharif is a murderous thug.
