Check Out Karl Rove's List Of Targeted 2008 House Races
Check Out Karl Rove's List Of Targeted 2008 House Races
By Eric Kleefeld | bio
So which Republican Congressional incumbents does Karl Rove, the "architect" of the GOP's big recent wins — but also the 2006 debacle — think are the most vulnerable? And which Democratic incumbents does he want the GOP to target?

The answer is contained in the PowerPoint presentation authored by Rove's office that TPMmuckraker has been dissecting today. As Paul notes, the overtly political briefing was given by a Rove deputy to personnel with the General Services Administration, which theoretically is supposed to be nonpartisan. (For more background on the slide show, see TPMmuckraker's ongoing coverage).

So who's Rove worried about? The presentation lists the following Republican House members as on the "Priority Defense" list:

Jim Gerlach, Pennsylvania
Vern Buchanan, Florida
Robin Hayes, North Carolina
Heather Wilson, New Mexico
Marilyn Musgrave, Colorado
Peter Roskam, Illinois
Chris Shays, Connecticut
Jean Schmidt, Ohio
Thelma Drake, Virginia
Barbara Cubin, Wyoming (Note: Rove also says that Cubin might not seek re-election.)
John Doolittle, California
Jon Porter, Nevada
Jim Walsh, New York
Deborah Pryce, Ohio
Randy Kuhl, New York
Mike Ferguson, New Jersey
Joe Knollenberg, Michigan

And which Dems does Rove think the GOP should try to knock off? The presentation also lists the "2008 House Targets: Top 20." Here they are:

The republicans will never be able to get over losing that seat in a district they thought was super safe.

Cheney too - And Condoleeza! They can talk about Iraq! Rumsfeld's got a lot of free time, right, and Brownie - and ALBERTO! They could put them all in Air Force One.

6. the big issue here is a Rovian deputy was spending taxpayer time & money ILLEGALLY on political
matters. We taxpayers pay these people to do the people's business, not the RNC's business. Rove's office is spending their time ILLEGALLY doing the RNC's business.

This is highly illegal.

Instead of making out lists to protect Republican seats in Congress, Rove ought to be making out lists to protect Republican seats in prison.

#1 Don't drop the soap in the shower.
#2 Don't bunk with anyone named "Bubba"
#3 Don't hang up pictures of Congressional pages.

19. Talk About Playing Defense...
Some gems on the list include Shays, Gerlach and Pryce...three seats that were "safe" going into '06...but no longer. There's also RoSCUM and Mean Jean who are ripe for defeat (here's hoping Tammy Duckworth is better funded this time) and then Wilson and Doolittle who may be facing prosecutors before Nov '08 rolls around.

I had to laugh that he had Sestak on the "hit" list...does that mean Weldon rises from the dead?

This isn't a list from someone seeing the Repugnicans retaking the House in '08...just holding on from being totally wiped out. Looks like Karl's seeing a "new math".

21. "mean jean" is one of my favorites, too. She, and "leather heather"
AND that 10th-century-minded abomination, marilyn musgrave is on there, too. Three I'd like VERY MUCH to see being sent to the unemployment line!

:toast:

Actually, I think having an "r" by your name is going to be the next best thing to a scarlet letter in '08. It may be the best chance we'll have in years to solidify our majorities in both houses.
