30 TONS a day - an addendum to Food Bank Friday

I started a new job this week for a regional food bank. We distribute food to a network of 650 local food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, children's programs and senior centers. I'm the new director of fundraising and public relations. As I was familiarizing myself with what we do and how we do it, I came across a statistic that floored me. We distribute 30 TONS OF FOOD A DAY - and because of constraints of warehouse space, vehicles, staffing, and money, we are not meeting the increasing demand. And this is in the richest state in the country.

30 TONS, every day.
