Call / write Congress whenever you get around to it about Complete Streets

It's a term I had never heard until about 10 minutes ago but it's one of those things that just makes too damn much sense.

Wouldn't it be great if our roads could be used by everybody?

1. I have to walk along a highway to get the bus home at night

and there's absolutely no reason why there can't be a sidewalk there. And a couple of street lights and overpass by my local strip mall would work wonders. Some of these roads are purely anti-pedestrian.

2. Have you ever made the mistake of going to a local meeting about these issues?

I went to one and a traffic engineer (Who I'm sure is otherwise a very decent person) responded to safety concerns by saying: "We don't recommend that you bike/walk on such and such a street"

Well, if you happen to live on the street in question and you don't have a car what are you supposed to do?
