UPDATE ON SON OF INJURED DU'er
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 05:56 PM by norepubsin08
There were many who responded to my post yesterday evening about the son of a DU member. DK was kayaking on a lake in Pierce County, Washington and was hit head on by a power boat that left him floating face down in the water. By the time he was found and brought to the hospital, he had a temperature of 82 degrees. He was transferred to a hospital in Tacoma, Washington this past week. He is still in very critical condition.

Many have asked on the forum what they can do and others have written me privately. DK's Mom and Dad have asked that the public donate blood in DK's name. She is grateful for the life saving blood that was available to DK and wants to make sure that others who need this precious commodity have it also.

Please K and R so as many people as possible see this...I went and donated toady...it didn't take long!

Peace!

2. I donated last Wednesday
I'm one of the folk that always makes it available when it is needed - part of the 5% of Americans who supply the blood for ALL

8. Ignorance/forgetfulness prevails--I hadn't been reminded of how donors unattached to those in need
are depended upon for blood donations in years and years.

9. 37% of Americans are eligible to donate
only 5% do so on a regular basis - the blood banks constantly have to beg for donors, even though every American expects blood to be there for them and their family in times of need - it's truly fucked up

My wife had surgery and while i was waiting, i gave blood and got free parking for my troubles. There was a hospital volunteer who was telling people who had to wait that a great way to use some of the wait was to give blood and they validated your parking.

35. K&R. Excellent idea! I'll see if they'll take me...
I was unable to give for a number of years because I was severely anemic, but before that, I gave regularly since I was 18. (The last time I gave, it was for myself, before surgery... x() I'm supposed to be okay now, had a test a couple of months ago. This is the perfect idea to honor this young man; blood is always needed. I wish him a successful and complete recovery...

50. A young man whose mom works
closely with lots of progressive organizations and blogs was kayaking on a lake in Pierce County Sunday afternoon March 1st. While kayaking a powerboat hit him head on and left the scene. The 14 year old young man was found at an undetermined amount of time later floating face down in the water. When he arrived at the hospital, his body temperature was 82 degrees. He is still in very critical condition after five surgeries.

DK's mom and dad have been inundated with questions as to how the public can help. They sent out a statement that asked the public to help by donating blood, if they can, plasma if they can. Their son received this life saving commodity and they wish for it to be there for others when their need arises. For those who can't do either, they ask for prayers and or positive thoughts for their son and his family.

I put this out here so that those can donate do so, and those who can't will pray or think positive thoughts for strength and healing for this family that has done much to help and work with the progressive community over these past years!

Peace-Mike

to me how the pilot of the boat was not arrested. Hit and run...leaving the scene of an accident....anyone?? Highly unlikely the person responsible could not have known he hit a smaller boat in a 20ft. craft. I smell a rat. Was the errant pilot drunk?...was he a cop?
