Secret Service Visit Freeperville
from Kos:
JimRob to Freepers: Stop Threatening the President's Life
by The Red Pen

Sat Mar 07, 2009 at 09:57:55 AM PST

Jim Robinson, founder of Free Republic, sounds off occasionally — usually to steer the discussions on the site toward approved talking points.

This morning, however, he gave a little moron-to-moron talk to his flock of Freepers called, Regarding salty talk aimed at the president (or other officials) vs visits from the SS.

He dances around the point delicately, but he's basically asking Freepers to stop threatening the President on his site. Recently, I and other diarists have noted an alarming uptick in the occurrence of violent rhetoric on the site. Commenters in many of these diaries have urge alerting the secret service or FBI. Jim Robinson refers to "visits from the SS" (Secret Service) in general terms, but doesn't say anything about any specific incidents. From personal experience, however, I am fairly certain that he's been spoken to about the content of his site and has been asked (possibly in a friendly way) to see to it that it is toned down.

The Red Pen's diary :: ::
The post itself is a hilarious cold war artifact, so here it is in its entirety. I've added emphasis to the part which suggests he's already been through a Secret Service investigation at least once:

Unfortunately, we are saddled with a communist sympathizer in the White House. I don't know whether or not he's an actual card carrying commie, but he's definitely an America-hating, anti-capitalist Marxist leftist who thinks communism is the way to go. Now I remember when America used to fight against communism. It wasn't that long ago. Many of us on FR are veterans of wars against communism and some of us believe that American citizens who are communists are the enemy within, ie, the domestic enemy we've sworn to defend against. American citizen? hmmmm... that may be a loophole for Obama.

At any rate, the oath is to defend our constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I can imagine that this places an enormous strain on our Secret Service agents. It's obvious to anyone with a brain that Obama is an enemy of the constitution. So should the SS defend the constitution or defend the anti-constitution commie?

So now comes the problem. If you feel it's your duty to call Obama a traitor and use salty language in your proposed resolution, ie, suggest the commie be keelhauled, walked off the plank, run up the yardarm, tarred and feathered and run out of Dodge, etc, etc, etc, you may be facing a visit from your friendly Secret Service. And even though your visiting agent may agree politically, and may take his oath to the constitution seriously, he's still sworn to protect the officeholder and it's his duty to take all threats seriously. And that may include serving me with a subpoena to turn over your IP address. Now I'm duty bound to protect your privacy to the best of my ability, but I cannot defend against stupidity.

Best advice I can give is to keep it to yourself. Don't post anything that may embarrass you later, or end you up in the slammer.

Ever vigilant.

Keep your powder dry.

In the comments, Jim Robinson says that he is asked for information about a poster about "once every four years." Wow, how many times has Kos had to answer to the Secret Service? And we are the un-American ones?

Anyway, no Freepology post would be complete without choice Freeper comments. Let's start off with one from prismsinc:

If Obama is a man, he will meet me in person. He’s a gutless coward that is using the SS to hide behind. Obama is a lowly immature fool that couldn’t run a hot dog stand.

Obama, come here and meet me you coward. You don’t want to hear what I think of you? You’re going to let Emmanuel and Geithner and these other minions you appointed do your bidding?

If we ALL say what we want, he will be overwhelmed. He can’t possibly cover every one of us.

Why would the President of the United States want to meet this guy? Because he's a man? If prismsinc wants to meet men, shouldn't he post on Craigslist or something?

Also, isn't the entire point of appointing minions so that they will do your bidding?

Well, that moratorium didn't last long, did it, Jim? OK, well there's always one bad apple.

Maybe two.

With the oligarchy recording anything that looks like it MIGHT be of the least interest r usefulness toward their goals from every origination point in every electronic network on the planet . . .

just how would an IP hiding site be of the least bit of use.

Particularly since they would undoubtedly have their own bots resident on such sites if not having set the sites up themselves—anywhere on the planet.

The American government spying on its citizens?! No! That would never happen! Except to protect us from terrorism, in which case, there are no rules!

We will never go back to Mayberry America because the Left has made it their mission to wipe it off the map and out of the fabric of our society long ago. There are consequences for those actions by the Left. One consequence is that far fewer conservatives are willing to "take the bullet" for these treasonous bas-tards who call themselves "Americans" anymore.

We will never return to Mayberry for the same reason that we will never return to Hazzard County, Georgia: it's fictional.

Speaking of the utterly fictional, is this what Freepers are talking about when they say, "liberals hate the truth"? Is this an example of the "facts" they learn from Rush Limbaugh?

Funny how Obama’s top "Secret Police Advisor" and much lauded Democrat hero, William Ayers, declared war on America, bombed and planned attacks and murder on our military and planned on murdering 50 million Americans who rejected Marxism - and his reward is professorship, tenure and adulation and hero status by the Democrat party.

Yet Obama has declared that no American may dissent with him or his policies?

Secret Police Advisor? For realsies?

1. I'd thought this was a joke. You mean the daily threats against the President
at that site were actually taken seriously by anyone? Are we sure Jim isn't just trying to rake in a few dollars?

5. i got a visit from the SS because of a post at the bartcop message board in august 2001..
someone had asked if there was a way under the constitution for Gore to become president before the 2004 election- i replied that he could be elected to congress in 2002, along with enough of a democratic majority to have him elected speaker of the house. at that point it would be the simple matter of a double-assassination to have him end up as president gore.

because of the term "simple matter of a double-assassination", they spent at least three days and numerous man-hours trying to talk to me at my house. the first time they came over, i didn't know who the guys with suitcoats and guns at my door were, so i went out the back window and over my neighbor's fence to circle around and see what was happening- and there was a car in the alley with government g12 plates with a man and woman inside...over the next couple days they tried calling several times- once at 6am, when they knew that both our cars were parked on the street on our block(we lived in chicago at the time). i finally called them back when they told my wife that they'd have to put out a warrant for my arrest. two agents came over- asked some questions about my affiliation with anti-government groups or people who might try to kill the president or vice-president.(absolutely zero). the agent said that he understood the sarcasm in the post but that he had to do what he's ordered to investigate. they took a polaroid of me(fully clothed), and left.

all over one silly post that wasn't even threatening, and all at least a month before 9/11.

TWICE?

At first I was just howling imagining you crawling out your own house trying to escape the thugs at your door....like one might be wont to do. Then I realized....DOH!

2. Without quotation marks, this post is difficult to follow. Non sequiturs abound...
... although I do get your point that JimRob at FR is both asking his "minions" to tone it down and giving them the wink-wink nudge-nudge.

I think.

and should've provided the link. Still, a great read.

36. Yep, that one lept out at me. Mayberry?
No thanks. I'd rather live with the Addams Family. That closeted gay sheriff and all his crazy white friends were sort of creepy. I always figured his wife killed herself (probably barbiturates and alcohol) but maybe that's because I grew up as an outsider in the shiny white suburbs where appearances were always kept, all the kids were above average, lawns were always mowed, cars were always clean, houses were always freshly painted, and guys living in silent desperation who locked themselves in their garages and shot themselves were reported to have "passed away" after "short illnesses" or tragic gun cleaning "accidents."

:scared:

Fortunately my own family was freakishly normal. You never knew who was going to show up at our house. Happy openly gay people, mad scientists, Cousin Itt, hippies, communists, tree-huggers, pacifists, and out-of-towners of every color.

Our family made many of our neighbors very nervous. They'd wish my parents would move away, and some of them were overt about it. Eventually my parents did move us out to the country, far away from the nosy "neighborhood watch" who would call the police if they saw anything like a black woman riding a motorcycle, or a naked guy up on the roof soaking up rays as reported by some guy with binoculars standing on a stepstool on his balcony.

hunter, the normal kid in creepy white suburbia.

I was the very last pick of our town's Little league. I didn't even get a proper uniform... not that I would have willingly worn it. The kid with Down Syndrome and coke bottle glasses got picked before me because the coaches knew he would pay at least some attention to the game and not every last bird or insect he happened to see.

I loved your entire story but this last bit is so sad!!

If your coaches could see you now, I'm sure that they'd be filled with remorse that you weren't at LEAST the third kid who got picked for sports. Shoot, I didn't even play sports. I was the prissiest little girl in the world. Way too scared I'd get a scratch or dirty or something. :)

42. It's okay. In college I got big and strong and could rip the cover right off a softball.
Maybe it was the oral steroids the doctors were feeding me for my asthma. Yum, yum, Prednisone, and whatever variations of it they were sampling out.

I was psychotic at times, running down the road past midnight wearing only my 1980's running short-shorts and nothing else, no underwear, no shirt, not even shoes until my feet were raw and bleeding, but I could womp a softball over the fence like Barry Bonds!

Damn. My childhood and young adulthood sucked. Thank God and Science for modern asthma and psych meds.

10. Could you somehow mark the posts that are from FR and the parts that are your comments?
Edited on Sat Mar-07-09 08:27 PM by tblue37
Perhaps blockquote the ones from FR, or put them in a different color, or even bold them or put them within quotation marks. I found it very confusing to sort through them and be sure which were FR posts and which were your comments about FR posts.

FYI: To offset something (as I have done with this passage), just put the word blockquote inside square brackets, and then /blockquote inside square brackets at the end of the offset portion.
If you want to put it into a different colored font, just put this
font color="blue"

(or red, or whatever) inside square brackets, and then /font inside square brackets when you want to go back to the normal black font.

Maybe you already know all this stuff, but just in case you don't, these are easy ways to separate matter in your posts so we can tell what is commentary from you and what is the stuff you are commenting on.

As far as needing an IP addy to track the morans down, it's not necessary. All one needs to do is follow the little turdbits they leave behind in their posts.

I was able to track down a picture of one. Also where he lived, where his kids went to school, even where he parked his two boats.

Sometimes One of them goes off the rails and does something crazy, but most of them won't leave their house to knock on doors for John McCain because they are too fucking lazy and want to keep their Saturdays and Sundays for themselves. What makes you think that they would put themselves for risk other than spouting off on a message board.

I met them during the campaign. They were much more scared of me than I ever was of them and I'm a 5'5 30 year old pacifist. If I said boo back 95% of these fuckers would back down. The few that would stand up were the younger ones who didn't even know what the hell they were saying.

The guy is obviously full of hate & distortion, to the point where he should be taking medication, imo. I have a son who is mentally ill -- I should be able to recognize it.

"Constitution-hating" Obama, "commies", etc. Either he's willfully ignorant or he's overcome by some deep-seated inner rage. I choose the latter; isn't he disabled? That's enough to create rage in anyone, but he should do something more constructive with his time to make his world more positive.

Mayberry America? It was a fucking TV show. That's like me wishing for Battlestar Galactica America.

I remember smiling to one who was particularly nasty during the General Election and simply saying, sorry I upset you, guess no one from the John McCain campaign has knocked on your door yet. His voice said yes they have but his eyes said he was lying. Boy did that make that asshat angry.

I had some nasty statements, told I was going to hell etc, even a view vieled threats. I'm not scared of these mother fuckers. BRING IT THE FUCK ON!
