Repubes and media agree --- Clinton economic policies were the best
As long as they're comparing stock performance to the President's economic policies, it's fun to point out that while Clinton was in office the stock market went up by about 8,000 points. So, he must have been the best President ever, right? We already knew that but I never thought the Repubes and news talkers would all agree with us.

1. The age of nepotism

When it comes to the issues of the global politics and the way it is perceived by the masses, a lot of things can be viewed as half-truth or false information wrapped into shiny paper to attract the attention and make people look away from the real problems. Unfortunately, most of us read only the headlines, and don't pay attention to what is really going on in the places like Africa, Gaza strip or the Balkans. Do we think about what is really done to improve the situation in those places by the organizations that are founded to interfere where it is needed and secure the lives of innocent people? Do we engage in dialogues only when we are the ones being endangered, or do we have a conscience that says that this world is a home to us all, and every nation suffering should be given a helping hand? We should understand that if some conflicts do not effect us directly, indirectly we are all effected as a species that seems to work hard against its own survival. I found some very interesting thoughts on this subject in the book called The Age of Nepotism, you should look it up and read about current affairs in the world from the perspective of Iranian American entrepreneur traveling through the Balkans. There is also a site www.theageofnepotism.com

4. I don't believe NAFTA had much to do with our current economical mess
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 02:56 PM by Winterblues
Read some History. Reagan tripled the National Debt in eight years, no NAFTA then, Bush 1 doubled that Debt in only four years, no NAFTA then, Clinton added almost a trillion dollars in the first term but by his second after NAFTA was passed we had three consecutive Surplus years and were actually paying down our Debt and America experienced the "Greatest Economic Expansion in History". Then along came Bush* and added more to our Debt than all other previous Administrations combined. I think if you were to examine how Republicans actually govern, you would find the reason for our economic collapse and it has nothing to do with NAFTA. Hoover caused the Great Depression and NAFTA wasn't around. Virtually every single Republican since Lincoln has had a recession or Depression during their term, only one Democrat has. I think there is a hell of a lot more than NAFTA to blame.

5. NAFTA has hurt the middle class in a big way.
Yes it has kept the cost of goods down but it has also suppressed wages to the point that the increase in living expenses has surpassed the initial savings from lower cost goods.

6. I believe GATT may be more responsible than NAFTA but you do have a good point.
