Rush is being played like a fiddle
The Democrats anoint him the head of the Republican party.

He believes it, and his overinflated ego swells to Hindenberg proportions.

He now wants to act as the head of the GOP, by pathetically asking to debate Obama.

There's also no GOP politician strong enough to go against Rush, so Rush's delusion of power becomes more real.

His ego will continue to swell, and his ego will soon seek to protect it's newfound power. Rush will start speaking against anyone in the GOP who actually tries to take the lead from him.

GOP moderates will take the brunt of this abuse, and the GOP will move further to the right, and further into obscurity. He may even fracture the party.

In many ways, egotistical people like Rush are very easy to manipulate. Love watching it happen.

1. I really, really, really want to see him run for POTUS.
And I think we should encourage it at every opportunity. Think of the great speeches he would make, the crowds he would draw and the exciting, intellectually stimulating debates we would have to look forward to. Rush for Pres!

17. And then,
think of him dropping over with a massive heart attack, because he's morbidly obese and unable to keep up with the demands of his new and thriving career as a political candidate.

Pass the popcorn...............

Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 06:33 PM by Demobrat
Just think of all the diners, pizza parlors, truck stops and hotdog stands at every campaign stop. And how much fun it would be to watch him get bigger and bigger until his poor little ticker exploded ....

3. We can marginalize moderate Repubs and elect Dems in those districts.
Moderate Repugs are going to get primaried by wingnuts and Dems will coast to victory.

who ought to be easy picking: Collins, Snowe, and Gregg. Wouldn't that be nice?

5. No he's not. He knows exactly what's happening.
You make the mistake of thinking that Rush Limbaugh gives a shit about what happens to the GOP. He does not. He only cares about his own ratings, and he is well aware that this is a ratings bonanza. In fact, it is even better for his ratings if the Republicans stay out of power, because Rush is fundamentally incompatible with power.

Rush is a brick-thrower. He makes his living by yelling at the people his listeners are angry at. And frankly, his listeners get a lot more angry at liberals when they're in power. Sure, he can bash the media, or Hollywood, or universities, or find some other boogeyman to whip up anger at when the Republicans have the power, but that's a lot more work for a lot less profit. Opposition pays.

8. Obama knows exactly what is happening too.
The point is that Obama knew how Rush would react, and he knew it wouldnt be good for the GOP, either way.

15. And Rush The Liar denied making fun of the little girl, of course.
When called on it, he denied ever making fun of Chelsea when she was a minor. Bullshit. Rush is the worst kind of liar; he has listeners who lap it up.

20. I heard him that day and never listened to him again.
My husband would roll his eyes when I would be getting ready to go somewhere and had him on the radio. I told him I wanted to know what the enemy was saying. After his Chelsea comment then I quit wondering and listening.

7. The GOP is certainly being played.
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 04:56 PM by Dr Fate
Whether Rush himself is being "played" doesnt really matter.

I'm open to the possibility that Rush doesnt really care if he destroys the GOP- so long as Rush gets ratings and exposure.

Either way, Obama seemed to know exactly how Rush would react- and he knew it would not bode well for the GOP.

Whether Rush has been "fooled" or not doesn't even matter at this point. The GOP certainly has been punked, and that is what matters.

14. I agree with you that the GOP will move further to the right owing to the Limbaugh attention.
The important thing is that the rest of America sees the republican party as the Limbaugh party. I was talking to a relative, a moderate republican who is truly angry with this Limbaugh flap. She said that Limbaugh has made a fool of Steele.
