The bankruptcy of our hyper-competitive society & the threat of cheese sandwiches for all
Male dominated hunter socialization is experiencing its death throws at the hands of the agricultural imperative of cooperative society necessitated by an overcrowded resource constrained world coupled with an information and communications revolution. Evidence of the pending demise of the hunter society can be found in the bankruptcy of U.S. hyper-competitiveness and its extreme excesses. This is what we are witnessing in the economic collapse and the rise of cooperative culture currently demonized by the hunters as "socialism" and "class warfare". While the move toward cooperative society is neither, these labels do reveal the anxiety and fear of irrelevancy facing the hyper-competitive hunters in our midst.

As the transition to cooperative society progresses through the fall of authoritarianism (unitary presidents & strongman rulers, authoritarian gods & religious potentates, super nationalism & patriotic fervor) what is needed is a firm, guiding and compassionate hand, like that of a disciplined mother toward her child, to corral, retrain, and redirect those pubescent boyish hunters toward productive contributory behavior that provides reassurance of self-worth and value while precluding old competitive behaviors that are counterproductive or destructive in a cooperative world.

This transition continues not to be pretty principally due to the fact that the hunters will continue to cleave to their hunter implements; namely, guns, bombs, and armies.

This, in a nutshell, is what is really going on within its largest context.

1. Well, I'll be damned.
I think you've got it in a succinct nut-shell.

Well said. Well said, indeed.

5. Just to be fair here, "old, (and young) white (and other) women" who enable
"old white men" suck at "leadership," too.

We used to call them "men in skirts" because so many are so adamant at supporting the very systems that keep them "in their place" because they "are allowed" to benefit from them. I guess "tools" would be another good word.

7. Just to play with your metaphore...
Hunter-gatherer societies were/are cooperative. Hunting in those societies is a community affair, usually the men in the community while the women were/are the 'gatherers' - still a cooperative endeavor. Hunter-gatherer societies had/have a much much greater amount of leisure time compared to agricultural societies, often used for more cultural pursuits.

Agricultural societies on the other hand gave rise to feudalism, serfdom, slavery, long work hours, etc.
