Imagine spending five million dollars a year for one million years
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 11:06 AM by Bandit
A million years but that is less money than the Republicans have spent in the last eight years and what do we have to show for it. Where are all the new hospitals and Bridges and Highways, and ???? 5 million a year for a million years ... Think about it...Americans have absolutely nothing to show for it except the collapse of our financial system and being hated around the world. Yet every main media news puts Republicans on as "experts" on how to deal with our financial problems..Is this nation truly brain dead?

1. "Is this nation truly brain dead"
For the most part, yes. The average person in this nation has no understanding of basic civics, logic, reason, or economics. They run on their brain stem and complain when they have to think anything out.

There is a reason that Opoid prescription drugs and Heroin are so popular these days.

2. A significant majority of those of us who voted voted for change.
It is easy enough to blame all of us for the corrupt stupidity of our institutions, but in fact what we have is a corrupt system that seems to be incapable of real change and real reform. The media is bought and paid for by the corporate kleptocracy, and with very few exceptions they are presenting a unified front of oppositionalist propaganda against any real reform efforts by the Obama administration.

And then we have the Obama administration itself. I guess I should not be surprised that what we have is a center-right government that is implementing center-right measures to mitigate the disaster left by its far right predecessor. I'm not surprised. I supported Obama with my eyes open and knew what I was voting for. I'm just curious to know what level of economic disaster will push this administration to move out of the neoliberal rut we have been stuck in since 1978 or so. How far into this disaster are we going to have to plunge before they figure out that knob twiddling isn't working? Do we actually have to have food riots before they wake up to what is happening?

3. Food Riots?
Way I see it, some kind of riots are pretty much fait accompli. Not a matter of if, but when.
