Economic Shock Therapy
Now the government (who backed US and IMF policies in the 70s and 80s) is telling us to buy Jamaican and eat what we grow. Of course the dollar that was J$1.35 to US$1.00 in 1975 is now J$90.00 to US$1.00.
What's more as the world economy and particularly the US economy takes a nosedive, the so called great tourism model is also crashing.

The Free Trade nightmare - neoliberalism gone mad.
Life & Debt is a woven tapestry of sequences focusing on the stories of individual Jamaicans whose strategies for survival and parameters of day-to-day existence are determined by the U.S. and other foreign economic agendas. By combining traditional documentary telling with a stylized narrative framework, the complexity of international lending, structural adjustment policies and free trade will be understood in the context of the day-to-day realities of the people whose lives they impact - 1.26.06
