Why This Fund Drive Matters So Much to Me
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 09:01 PM by Mike 03
Just my personal opinion.

The reason I LOVE the Valentine's Day fund drive is because it's not based on anything other than wanting to express our appreciation to other DUers, so it is very genuine and from the heart.

In a way, that is the biggest compliment I can think of. Just to give because you feel like giving in order to make someone you care about feel good. Someone who has done something for you, or said something to you that made a difference, or just someone who is very kind who you want to acknowledge.

There is probably a plethora of reasons I'm not thinking of that also address this question, but I think the Valentine's Day drive is genius, and it gives us a chance to express the more personal, private aspects of how much we appreciate Democratic Underground, what it stands for, and, most importantly, the people here who have made a difference in our lives.

13. Solly Mack--did you do that? If so, I thank you.
But I imagine some people might still consider me heartless--at least some of the time--LOL.

21. Solly Mack,
I tried to return the favor, but during my donation process I did not see how to give you a heart to "wear." All I saw was a button warning that if I clicked it to credit another DUer, that DUer would get the heart to distribute, not to wear, which of course is not what I was trying to do.

I emailed Skinner to ask him to fix it and give you your heart if there is a way to do that, but I don't know if that's possible.

I just wanted you to know that I tried, and I want everyone else to know that if things were as they should be, you would be wearing yet another heart on your sleeve, as it were.

That was sweet!!! As for your evil duer...don't let it bother you. I was thrilled to get one that said that! :)

22. Never mind--I finally figured out how to give you the heart.
I assumed it would be done during the donation process, and I didn't realize how to do it until I made a post on another thread, at which time I saw the button at the bottom of my post to give someone a heart.

23. Oh, my--I just saw that someone gave me another heart, but I can't tell
whether it is intended positively or negatively, considering the message on the heart!

It makes me wonder whether I have offended someone. It seems it would be odd if I had, since my posts are always pretty darned mild!

6. I'm glad Skinner & Co. decided to do it again this year.
I only wish I could buy hearts for everyone but now that I'm jobless, I won't be able to do so. Thanks to those who thought of me and gave me my hearts. DU keeps me going. :grouphug:

12. I went 3 days without my donor star while I waited for this fundraising
drive -

I wanted to cry

wish I had enough money so that I could have donated when my star went away and enough to do it again today

....

I was strong

and I got to give my favorite du-ers stars

19. Go ahead and donate money for the thousands of us who are out of work then.
Or are otherwise destitute, of course.
