FR: The Earth is the center of the Universe, God's glorious design!
Of course the Earth is at/near the center of the Universe. God’s glorious Design is for our sake, and it’s fitting that we would have a place at center-stage, so to speak. Evo-Atheists have tried to belittle our position in order to make us some cosmic accident scattered at the fringes of an impersonal Cosmos.

1) The (our) solar system moves through space.

2) The Milky Way not only revolves but also moves through space.

3) The super cluster of galaxies that the Milky Way is a part of also is moving through space.

Therefore: There is no real way to tell where the center of the Universe is, and if we were near it then we are no longer near it due to motion/gravity/celestial expansion!

Their view of things is really a few centuries/millennium out of date.

Do I need to go any farther?

Scary. These people are genuinely frighetning. Ignorance like this has often fueled monstrous acts of murder and hideous atrocities.

There can be no doubt that our nation is dangrously close, ESPECIALLY if the Greater Depression turns out to be what it looks like, to these people getting to act on their hatreds and ignorance.

Don't be caught by surprise if it happens. Don't be surprised like most of the German Jews were when the German Bushies took over that country in 1933.

In this sort of crazy, we hear the words of the Nazi "intellectuals" and their murderously ignorant followers.

Don't be surprised, and DON'T think just because Obama got elected means that the Bushification/Nazification of the National Mind has reversed. Far from it. It proceeds apace, though I have hopes Obama can turn that around.

When you look into the eyes of a Nazi or Bushie Monster, never forget what you saw, the deep black ignorance of a person who would happily slaughter six million Jews and Liberals, so long as they has "permission from authority" to do so.

Never forget, because history is swinging around again for another repeat, and if Obama is unsuccessful, in the upcoming Great War that always seems to follow Great Depressions, it will be we Americans performing the role of the Kinder and Gentler Nazis.

I hope I turn out to be wrong about this, and it is possible that this will only happen after a couple more deacdes, or not at all.

We can hope. But if this crazy Freeper ever "gets permission" to randomly brutalize "evil lib'ruls", then watch out Liberals!

He's a very good kitty, too.

Funny, that's what my vet said when I brought him in a couple years ago and he was behaving so well as he hardly needed to even be held on the metal examining table.

My vet, and old country doc, said, "Some cats are just good. You can tell. This one is good."

It always amazes me how people can think they are the chosen ones.

If God created everything in the universe and if God loves all of his creations, why would he love any one creation more than another? It just doesn't make any logical sense......

32. You can, if you want, imagine the Earth to be at the center of everything
with the sun revolving around it and the other planets revolving around the sun, etc. Like, imagine an orrery and you pick it up holding the earth fixed so that everything else moves in relation to it. Tycho Brahe's model of the solar system was essentially like that. This model works mathematially. It's just king of a crazy thing to do.

46. I dunno. I kind of like "evo-atheist,"
even though it's silly. If you're an atheist, chances are you believe in all kinds of real things, evolution being among them.

Even though my high school "science" book was basically a diatribe against evolution, I have trouble with anyone who doesn't "believe" in it. If you know anything about nature, you know that nothing makes sense unless seen through the lens of evolution.

43. I live in Oklahoma
this kind of thinking is common place around here. The Earth is only 4,000-6,000 years old and we are all made of dirt and God's breathe. Didn't you know that? Also, God reached his hand out of the sky and penned the bible himself.

Seriously, half of the people I work with don't believe in evolution... of course I don't either. I reserve the word "believe" for things I am not entirely sure about so evolution falls into the "know" category. But yeah, when my coworkers discovered I had very strong atheist leanings they were shocked and amazed. They laughed at me when I talked about evolution. These are people with strong biology backgrounds. Fear the religious right. They intentionally wear truth blinders and ignore anything that disagrees with their pastors.

53. Don't they have the whole thing backward???
if you read the article that the OP linked too....

http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/5181

it seems to be saying that the force is acting to accelerate the craft toward the sun, and these are out past the orbit of Pluto so they are obviously outbound from the sun.

^snip^

an ‘apparent anomalous, constant, acceleration acting on the spacecraft with a magnitude ~8.5×10−8 cm/s2 , directed towards(sic) the Sun.’ The Pioneer spacecraft are very distant, far beyond the orbit of Pluto.

These craft are outbound, away from the sun. Therefore the force is actually acting to decelerate them in their motion away from the sun.

It looks to me like they all got this exactly backward.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise !!!

54. No, it's perfectly normal to call it an accleration, towards the sun
And they are using the real observations of the Pioneer spacecraft - their distance from the sun, each year, is indeed slightly less than was predicted, and is consistent with an unanticipated (very small) force, and thus acceleration, towards the sun. There's no problem with calling it an acceleration towards the sun, rather than a deceleration; it's done frequently in normal maths, physics and engineering.

What he is actually doing is hypothesising an expanding shell of unknown mass, just beyond the distance that we can see (which, in normal physics, is the age of the universe times the speed of light). He calls this 'the waters above', from the Genesis creation myth.

He claims that this would cause measured radar distances to appear shorter, to us inside the shell, because of an apparent acceleration towards the 'centre of mass of the universe' (which he says the earth is close to - possibly he means it's the Sun, but I'm not sure about that). I can't follow normal relativity calculations, so I can't say if this bit is full of shit or not; but I suspect it is, because he is claiming something special about gravitational potential relative to an infinite distance from his centre of the universe, and this all seems to imply we are affected by forces and/or potential variation travelling faster than light - if he's going to take part of Einstein's theories, I don't think he can just dump a large part of it without an explanation.

However, I can't see where he uses the distance of the spacecraft from us, or the time it takes for the radar pulse to reach us from it, so that all measurements on earth, or of spacecraft in orbit around it etc., ought to be subject to his apparent acceleration as well, I think - and, plainly, this is an effect only observed with spacecraft at a large distance. But anyway, he plugs in the acceleration value, which allows him to find the mass of his expanding shell (20 times the observed mass of the universe, FWIW) - and then he waves his hands a bit, and says "this supports a young universe, such as 6,000 years old" - without bothering to do any calculation for that.
