Email NOW! Fill in your Senator's name...
My letter to Sen. Collins

Dear Senator Collins,

I am emailing you to request that you vote yes on President Obama's stimulus bill. The American people voted for change this past November, not more trickle down economics. The middle class has been decimated by the Bush Administration's policies and we must reverse field and we must do so immediately.

The people of the State of Maine expect you to put their needs first not the Republican party.

We need substantial fiscal stimulus of this economy and we need it now. If you ask me the bill should be in the area of 1.5 to 2.0 trillion dollars. I also think the dollars allocated to infrastructure should be 400 billion dollars per year over the next two years. The Republican party had no concern with deficits for the past eight years and suddenly the GOP is full of deficit hawks, it's hypocritical on it's face. Remember Dick Cheney said, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter".

Now is not the time for Hoover economics. This is political posturing and we the people will not tolerate it.

Do the right thing Senator, and advance this legislation and do not reduce it until it's impact is minimized.

1. Earlier today, I wrote both of mine
Vile Kyl and McCain not that I have any illusions it will do any good. I think this line was brilliant: Although I may not be a member of your "base," I am one of your constituents.

Dear Senator Kyl,

Although I may not be a member of your "base," I am one of your constituents. I am deeply concerned about the lack of cooperation you and your Republican colleagues are showing toward the Whitehouse's efforts to move our country forward. President Obama has attempted bipartisanship and the Republicans in Congress have responded with partisan bickering. This, while thousands are losing their jobs and homes. Why? So wealthy Americans can continue to escape paying taxes? Tax cuts have not worked in the past and in fact, are a remnant of failed Reaganomics. All they serve to do is enlarge the deficit and increase the disparity between rich and poor. Have you ever had to decide between medicine and food? Between paying the light bill or buying shoes for a child who has outgrown his? Please realize that only a very few of your constituents are well off.

I really want to know why you oppose programs to improve infrastructure. I want to know why you oppose funding for science and technology research. Why do you energy-related R&D? Funding the Army Corps of Engineers? Modernizing our nation's electrical grid? Making our schools safe and ensuring that schools have the funds to function and repair buildings? Aid to college students? Funding to VA so our veterans can have adequate health care when they return from serving our nation overseas? Please explain why you oppose helping Americans and insist on tax cuts for the wealthy. They do not stimulate job growth but only to concentrate the nation’s wealth in the hands of a few.

Our nation is at a crossroads and needs help like never before. Clinging to the old saw about tax cuts is not helping. It is obstructionist and counterproductive. Please encourage your senate colleagues to remember that their constituents are real people, not numbers, not the wealthy. They are regular folks who try to make a living and face daily stress over losing jobs and homes.

Thank you for your time.
