It is understood that some teachers considered the dance inappropriate for 14-19-year-olds.

But Mrs Remmer, who has also performed for the Women's Institute, said that unless people are educated in the differences between poledancing and lap- dancing, then 'negative stereotypes will not go away'.

She added that she had to wear hot pants and a crop top for the school performance because the skin provides all of the grip between the dancer and the pole. 'If we wore more clothes, we'd just fall off,' she said.

The college refused to comment on the incident.

Offering occasional "accidental" peeks at their underwear during pep rallies and footbal games? Honestly, that's probably a little more inappropriate than what I saw on that video, but since it's an entrenched part of pretty much every high school in America, cheerleaders are seen as wholesome and expected, and this dance instructor is creepy and nigh-pornographic.
