Their only option is (our) failure
Edited on Fri Jan-30-09 08:32 AM by Cyrano
Republicans are a party of the walking dead. The ideas they've pushed for 30 years, -- tax cuts and no regulation of big business, -- have put us in a deep economic dungeon.

They won't compromise their (so-called) principals and they don't want to see the Democrats and Obama succeed. In other words, they don't mind watching us all swirl around in the toilet they built and flushed.

After seeing zero Republicans vote for a plan that might start to turn our economy around, how can any sane person stick with them. They are a party controlled by a drugged up madman named Rush Limbaugh and they will kiss his ass while the country drowns.

They no longer have the right to be called our "political opposition." They are our deadly enemies, pure and simple. And they must be shunned and ostracized from decent society.

2. They Have No Options...
Someone spelled out four scenarios the GOOP faces...and none are much to their liking. They could go along with President Obama and the stimulus is successful...Obama gets all the credit and Democrats win big. They could go along with President Obama and the stimulus fails and then get blamed for it along with the Democrats...a wash at best. They could oppose Preisdent Obama and the stimulus succedes and they're screwed in 2010...or they can do everything they can to make it fail and hope people are too stupid to know who caused the problems, blame it on Obama and start the "revival". It's one hell of a gambit...with a greater chance of total failure than success. But so be it.

The "big tent" of the 80's is now a tatters. The abuses and corruption of the booooshie years led to the riff and last year's loss has put it into hyper drive. This is a party with no real leadership, no agenda and no real future. All they have are a shrinking group of dead-enders...the most polarized and polarizing...and all claiming it was the others who "lost" the elections. They've chased away moderates and independents...all that's left is the rotting core of failed policies and politics.

I don't see the need to ostracize as much as to expose. To let them slink underground is to enable them to get away intact and not have to accept the responsibilities and realities of their failed policies and divisive obstruction. People need to be reminded who messed up this country and then identify those who were the most responsible and culpable.

Things are still a bit fluid right now. The wingnuts are just starting to realize they're totally out of power and their bullying tactics no longer work. They're still several steps from any true rehabilitation...they've gone through denial, now anger...we still have the resignation and recognition stages...and that may take a while. If not, they're headed for the political ashheap.

Cheers...

4. Oh to Dream!
What a great dream come true it would be. The GOP actually becomes extinct. Like Dinosaurs walking into the Tar Pit. Their basic core beliefs are just outdated. It's like the Nazi party or the KKK...in time, they will fade away. Unforunately not fast enough, but it would be so nice to see them go away. With each generation, they will be slowly replaced by people that care about other people, that believe the Government should not be overwhelming, but is there for a purpose..."Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door." by Emma Lazarus on the base of the Statue of Liberty. Doesn't say, give me your poor and we'll let them die of starvation...

5. Welcome To DU...
A lot can be said for a true loyal opposition...an opposition intend on debating ideas on the merit, not on the sound bite or emotional reaction. It keeps people honest and brings forward the best ideas...putting the common good ahead of personal or political gain. This is what I believe President Obama is trying to create, but it's change that the beltway is loathe to accept...and this will take time.

The remnants of the repugnican party are so fractured and frustrated the only thing that can and does unite them are fear or a good hate. They still haven't figured out the changes that have gone on, nor are willing to face the consequences of their failed policies and the longer they avoid this reality, the further from power they will get. I think this is what happened to the Whigs...

Cheers and welcome...
