One year old baby girl is pregnant
A one-year-old child has been found pregnant in Saudi Arabia. But she's no Juno. Check out the shocking X-ray photos.

A team of doctors traced the biological processes to find out how a baby girl could be pregnant. It turns out that the mother of the pregnant baby originally had two embryos, but one began to develop in the uterus of the other fetus. In other words, the baby girl is carrying her unborn twin.

Doctors are in consultations about the abortion to save the one-year-old.

About 51 similar incidents have been recorded in medical history, although the incidence rate is not high. The abnormality occurs in 1 in 500,000 live births.

From the replies in the OP:

Wow what a miracle, hoping that the GOD of miracles will perform his signs and wonders in the life of both the baby mother and the baby child...

1. That's freaky. Hope they can remove the fetus without permanently
ruining this baby's fertility when she reaches adulthood.

3. I hope they're ALLOWED to abort the fetus.
Saudi Arabia is the Muslim answer to the Christian fundies we have here.

In other words, they may believe that those cells are more important than the baby currently alive and thriving and make this poor infant carry to term. Ugh.

4. I don't think there's any possible way for this baby to have a baby--simply
a matter of size and anatomy--they will certainly have to abort, or the baby will die.

13. I know this - I was being rhetorical.
Because I'm sure there are some wingnut Americans who will actually believe that the infant shouldn't abort.

This is what we've become. Sigh.

8. Yeah, cuz lord knows...
she'll be completely worthless to society if she can't reproduce. Not to mention the fact that the world is so underpopulated with human beings these days. :eyes:

15. ??--she might want to have children someday. I wasn't commenting
on her "worth" or anything else. I'm glad I didn't have a hysterectomy as a baby--left me free to choose motherhood (or not--whatever floats anyone else's boat).

19. Oh give me a break.
I would think any reasonable doctor would try and preserve someone's fertility if possible.

ok that was for shock value.

but my question is how can a zygote/fetus be in arrested development for what, 20 months? While life goes on literally all around them.

6. Overly sensationalized. It's called "fetus in fetu" and not really all that rare.

7. Not really that rare? I have never heard of another fetus being in the
uterus of the baby already born.

14. I Was Thinking the Same: "Wow, What a Completely False Headline"
Like there's any way on earth that a viable foetus is in there.

16. That wikipedia article is scary!
Check out this example they give:

Alamjan Nematilaev was the surviving host of a fetus in fetu. In 2003, aged 7, his school physician in Kazakhstan referred him to hospital after movements were detected in the boy's enlarged stomach. An operation intended to remove a cyst uncovered the fetus of Alamjan's identical twin brother, which had lived as parasitic growth inside the boy throughout his entire life. The fetus was comparatively highly developed, with hair, arms, fingers, nails, legs, toes, genitals, a head, and a vague approximation of a face.

:wow:

10. Um. That's not "pregnant" and an absorbed twin is not that uncommon.

11. A friend of ours was pregnant with twins. One twin died and sort of "joined" the remaining fetus.
Is this situation kind of like that?

I would think that the infant would "miscarry" and the "abortion" would be more like removing excess tissue cells that could cause and infection.

22. Not quite.
In this instance the twin is not completely absorbed, more like surrounded. They generally still maintain their own little amniotic sac and continue to develop in some way.

It's really quite fascinating...but gross too.

21. No. Unless you want to refer to affected males as "pregnant" too.
Ridiculous headline.

a parasitic twin or dermoid cyst?
