5. Don't think they really care where their "food" comes from.
Point is, cheap meat is cheap for a number of reasons. This is one of them.

6. Kosher suppliers charge more than regular ones

If McDonald's wants cheap, they would go with a non-kosher outfit.

3. That is an example of what Reaganomics started
The meatpacking industry was a very good business in the 70's. The workers were payed well and worked hard for their salaries.

A meatpacking facility is a miserable place to work. Bloody, greasy either cold or hot conditions depending on what part of the operation you work. The smell alone is nauseating.

In the early 80's the union busting Reaganomics saw many places closing and reopening a few months later with illegal labor.

I experienced this first hand. Now we have the meatpacking houses as mentioned in the story.

Thank you Ronald Reagan.

4. Error in comments section
Postville is in Iowa's first district, therefore king isn't the representative of the district. Bruce Braley is but Braley has called for prosecution of the criminals involved in the plant. Such as HR people, plant managers, and the owners. They hired the workers and were fully aware of what was happening so they should be held accountable. And just for the record, a lot of people here in Iowa are hoping that king makes a run at either Grassley's Senatorial seat or the Governor's seat because he will get trounced and then hopefully be gone.
