BBC program on American health care not available to American viewers
http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/122850/

My sister Brigid Marlin lives in the UK and a few days ago was watching a BBC program on health care in the United States. Brigid is not a public affairs junkie so I was interested when she sent me an email reporting that the program was a shocking portrayal of the high cost and low coverage of U.S. medical care. This itself is not news but there are two things about the show that are worth an alert: (1) The BBC's effectiveness in describing the problems with U.S. health care, and (2) The fact that Americans can't watch it. My sister says:

They were discussing the problems that Obama faces in meeting his promise to provide health care for poor Americans. The program showed an English medical team that set out to provide medical services to poor people overseas. They ended up spending 60 percent of their time helping poor Americans, as they are the most needy! We were shown people getting up at 4 am and driving for hundreds of miles to be early in a huge queue for a doctor's help.{at} u.washington.edu

Edit to add:

I found a copy on bitorrent. Here's the name of the program since it is not spelled out in the article: 'Panorama - S57E03 - What Now, Mr President?'. A quick search should yield results.

9. You have to use a torrent program to download
I use BitTorrent, a free program. http://www.bittorrent.com/

After you have that, you go to a place like http://www.isohunt.com or http://www.scrapetorrent.com and paste the title into the search.

Then you just click on the links with the title and your program should prompt you through.

It's easy once you learn how, but not easy to decribe. If you are interested, check over at the computer forum, they might be able to be of help.

I'll keep reseeding, and hopefully someone will pick this up and get it to u-tube or vimeo.

2. not surprising.
big pharma and the insurance companies dont want us to see the truth..but dont worry..we have Sanjay GOOpta about to be sworn in as surgeon general...he is in bed with big pharma , too, so i guess corporate america still has us all by the cajones.
maybe someone will post it on the web, which seems to be the only place one can get any real news.

12. Little changes disguised as big changes have happened
This week is called the little breather until we roll up our sleeves and get back to work. Actually, I need to head to Olympia on Wednesday morning, so I guess my reprieve isn't so long and I'll be fighting the insurance companies this time, next time it'll be big pharma or the torture we don't do anymore. The work of being a patriot is never ending and I guess I'm okay with that. I goofed off in my twenties, I'll work the rest of it as hard as I can to make up for my Reagan blind years (old enough to vote, too preoccupied to care. Ugh!(.

13. I plead guilty on that myself
First I waited for the revolution in the streets, and then went to grad school (Dare to study! Dare to pass!) Subsequently worked on various issues, voted mostly for Dems if there wasn't a Green available, and ignored electoral politics. Trying to make up for lost time as well.

3. we did see something about that here--i remember this team of doctors
and how they traveled the country, and people got up and drove to be allowed to see them, but they could only see a set amount of people. yes, i can't recall what the show was (maybe a frontline? or 60 minutes?) but there was some show about that here--maybe a couple years ago

10. Good sleuthing!
Apparently the only thing that doesn't work is trying a particular BBC link from certain viewers in the US.

14. Saw it here... was very depressing... add to that finding out a former SO who is going through this
with her mother and father and I am so sick of the healthcare debacle.

Do something now, Obama.

16. Videos from the BBC website are not available to ANYONE outside the UK
I know. I've tried to watch other programs online. It has something to do with non-Brits not paying the BBC licensing fee. Strangely enough, I have no trouble listening to BBC RADIO programs.

21. There's this thing here called the TV license.
It costs about £120 per year (at least for me) and they will come and knock on your door if you've got a TV and don't pay it.
