It's a big tent not an echo chamber and every so often we learn something.

How 'bout you?

when debating. I don't know how many times I've had a new perspective brought to my attention in the economics forum.

Edited for spelling

I enjoy getting reprimanded on my views or behavior any time I start an original post.

9. I usually play it safe with my original posts
like a photograph or something. Nobody's going to tell you that your picture sucks. Well, on second thought, you never know. I can remember getting blasted in the lounge once for posting pictures of Iditarod sled dogs.

12. I've been corrected and chastised so many times,
that I have given up on reading replies, unless someone posts "LOL" or "ROFL" in response to a reply. There are far too many people here ready to jump all over you if your opinion, belief, habits, behavior or lifestyle are 1 degree askew from their view of what is right and wrong. I think I'd rather sit in church, where the scolding is rote and predictable, than face the gauntlet of this web site any longer.

37. There is not shortage of complete dicks on DU....
but they are far outnumbered by people who would rather provide constructive criticism.

After ~2 years hanging out here, I have yet to put anyone on "ingore".

14. Seriously?
How can someone hate sled dogs? I guess I can see the objection to the way some people treat some dogs, but anyone who's ever spent five minutes with a sled dog knows how much they love to run.

My daughter, through a school project, became obsessed with the Iditarod last year. SO much so that I took her to Juneau this summer to see the dogs. We're actually looking for a place where she can go Hang out with the dogs in the lower 48 (they race in California, which is right next door) and she's constantly harping on me to get a job somewhere -- ANYwhere -- in Alaska.

19. Yeah, seriously.
I understand that the Iditarod is controversial to some people, but I've been a fan for as long as I've been here (1975). It's just a great Alaska tradition, and, as you say, the dogs love it. My husband and I are going out to Nome for the finish this year, and we can hardly wait. He volunteers with the dogs every year, and we go to the ceremonial start downtown and then out to Willow for the restart, but this is the first time to Nome. We'll be out there a week.

I'll be putting together an Iditarod photo gallery on my Smugmug page (my sig line) when we get back in March, so if you're interested keep that in mind. I have galleries from the past two years, but, of course, they're just the start, not the finish, which will be so much more fun.

so DU is one of my windows to the world, plus after all we've been through together, a lot of you I consider my friends. I think we all have a need to communicate, and this is a safe place to do it. I've learned a lot here in the past four years.

29. I get a real kick out of the ironic ads sometimes
Like, in a thread about Jack in the Box outsourcing their drive thru order takers to India, I saw an ad for "We can help you outsource part of your business and increase your profits!" or in a thread about something Ann Coulter just said and there was an ad there to buy her latest book.

Maybe I just have an odd sense of humor though...

Seriously, I get a kick out of the idea that the freeptards-types think all the bickering is some kind of 'weakness'. Those with one mandated message don't do 'discovery'.

Despite the fact that, on a regular basis, we are urged to never question any Democrat at any time about any thing. Oh yeah, and how we have to all be JUST LIKE everyone else and be PC at all times. Fuck that. Viva la difference!

Edited to add: My sig line pretty much says it all.

Myself, I like a hearty debate, like a good chess game. A good chess game means, of course, a challenging opponent who gives a good fight and then loses graciously. :o
