Miss America 2009 is crowned Saturday... Does anyone care anymore?
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 01:36 AM by Yukari Yakumo
The network that airs it should be a dead giveaway that no one cares about beauty pageants anymore. The thing is on TLC. The Learning Channel. The Learning Fucking Channel.
It apparently isn't even good enough to air on the Country Network. Airing it on CMT I could understand since redneck hicks might give a damn about stuff like this. But The Learning Channel? What the hell does The Learning Channel have to do with beauty pageants that nobody watches anymore? But do you remember Teen South Carolina? That braindead moron who made Bush sound like a genius. Does anyone remember whatever happened to her? No, nobody give a flying fuck about her. Does anyone remember who won? Of, course not! The only time anyone cares about beauty pageants is when someone fucks the hell up. Oh yeah, everyone loves wrecks...

/announcer/Miss Alabama fell on her ass... 4 times./end announcer/

Does anyone cares about beauty queens? At least other than Sarah Palin? (And we know how much of a genius she is. ) Fuck no.

But, there is one reason we should pay attention, and it's for the the kids. Yeah, the kids.

...

Specifically the eight-year-old girls involved in junior pageants. If you hear about some girl under the age of 14 is in any of those things, that should be a big red fucking alarm light saying "Something is wrong with mommy!" Check her medicine cabinet, I sure Prozac, Vicodin, and Valium are just the tip of the iceberg...
And, how do you judge those things? The judges would have to be pedophiles to some degree, wouldn't they? Creepy!

2. The original purpose of the pageants was tittilation
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 04:57 AM by johnlucas
It was always a glorified T & A contest but over the years it became less about the T & A so less people (men) cared about it.

There's wet T-shirt contests & all other kinds of sources for tittilating images so it has outlived its purpose.
Looking at the history of the pageant, we ain't losing much.

With internet porn who needs pageants? :7

3. The only way I would be interested is if she said:
"I intend to spend my reign as Miss American pursuing the arrest and convictions of the Bush Administration for the crimes that they committed against my country in my name."

4. I care. I'm rooting hard for Miss Vermont
who's a Bernie Sanders supporter and volunteer, and who's wearing a "green" gown by a designer a few miles from me, whose studio is solar powered and who uses hemp and recycled fabrics- and who named her design studio, Earthbitch, which I love.

Not that Miss Vermont stands a chance.

6. "Not that Miss Vermont stands a chance." Why not, is she ugly or something?
Or is there some kind of Miss America power brokering that goes on and makes only the Misses of big states serious contenders?

8. Nah, she's actually very pretty- close to beautiful
but it does seem that only big state or southern state contestants ever end up as miss america.

9. Well whaddaya know: Ashley won the talent preliminaries
On January 24, Miss America 2009 will be announced, and Miss Vermont inches closer.

On Thursday, Lyndonville's Ashley Wheeler made progress in the preliminaries.

"It's been such an amazing week, these women are so incredible, articulate, talented, it's just fun to be a part of it," Ashley Wheeler said.

Ashley Wheeler received the best talent score in the prelims. She performed an a capella version of God Bless America.

"Well it felt amazing to win. I have worked very hard on my platform of registering young voters and it felt right to be singing God Bless America, and it was a risk to do it a capella and got out there with just a gown and a microphone but I think that it worked," Wheeler said.

Her dress is environmentally friendly and designed in the Northeast Kingdom. She hopes more people will get a glimpse of it.

"Well the green gown was actually unveiled during preliminary competition and if I make the top 15, I will be strutting down the runway in the green gown," Wheeler said.

Full disclosure: My son went to graded school with Ashley for a couple of years.

11. Alright! It would be so cool if Vermont won and if Miss America
was a Sanders supporting liberal who's advocating environmentalism.

7. Only if she's an Afro-Asian Hispanic Lesbian Single Mother
That might make it interesting, particularly if her "talent" is speed Chess or solving differential equations.

Otherwise..meh.
