Can You Help Me Out With Local Newspaper?
I live in Abbeville, Louisiana, a Cajun town of 12,000 (maybe less after Hurricanes Rita and Gustav.) Anyway, years ago I canceled my subscription due to their obviously conservative slant, but they recently put up an online edition which I check daily. Imagine my surprise this morning to find the following FRONT PAGE editorial:

"When Bush first ran for president, he was governor of our sister state, Texas. We examined his track record as governor and decided to support him for the presidency on the grounds that he was a good man, honest, truthful, and compassionate and a good leader.
We knew he never won any prizes for being smart but we thoughthe had good common sense and we supported him throughout his two terms. When he invaded Iraq, we immediately knew it was ill advised and a terrible mistake. Still, we supported him in the belief we didnt know all the facts and he did.
We continued to support him through his two terms hoping against hope that he would correct his many misjudgments and mistakes. Sadly, we were wrong on every count.
Without Louisiana, Bush would have never been president of the United States. We believed he would continue the legacy of President Ronald Reagan who single handedly restored America and the Republican Party to new heights. Instead, Bush single handedly disgraced America and destroyed the Republican Party.
We supported Bush editorially for president not once but twice. We now believe he will go down in history as the worst president ever and deservedly so due to his ineptness, incredible incompetence, and his lack of truthfulness, intelligence and compassion. Throw in arrogance and you run the gambit of what it takes to be the worst president in history.
We are not the Bush haters you see or read about. We wish him well as he rides into the sunset and into oblivion. On the other side of the horn, we are happy that his presidency has ended.
We deeply regret having recommended Bush to our readers and profusely apologize for our mistake in character and judgment."

It occurs to me that, in this small, red, red town, it took balls to write something like this, and the blow-back will be terrific. And, since it is wise to positively reinforce such behavior, could you please go to the site, , register and post a short comment, praising the editorial?? Either pretend to be a local, or not, but please help me out....thanks SO much!!

2. OK kick
Here's the nub. Here is why they ventured to write this and publish it: They are losing money.

I vowed to never again buy a newspaper since they all lied to us about Bush, and in this case, I am not alone.

It is all about money with the newspapers these days and they are paying for their greed.

As far as help with this paper from me goes, all I can offer is my bic lighter.

4. And now finally, at the end of all things
They want absolution. As any good priest would tell them, there are elements required to make a full confession and expiation of sin. Certainly there is the acknowledgement of wrongdoing and remorse for the wrongdoing that appear in this editorial. But more than that, there must be an effort to mitigate the damage caused by the wrongdoing, and resolve not to do it again. I'm not sure if those elements are there.

What is the Abbeville paper going to do to heal the damage it caused in the community, and what steps are they willing to take so that it doesn't happen again? I'm not sure I read in the editorial a real change of heart; they're awfully sorry that Bush's bellicose ways and incompetent management didn't work out, but they don't seem resolved not to be buffaloed again should another amiable nitwit come along.

5. Great editorial except
for the nonsense about Reagan. That's a lie that will never die. He did not restore America to greatness and he set the GOP on a path that led directly to George Bush. Without Reagan, it's quite possible there would have been no Bush.
