I knew republicans would be happy about the market falling, they will be thrilled

if the Dow drops to 5,000 or lower.

1. Yes because Obama has been Prez for 8 hours and has done more damage than Boosh did in 8 years.
:rollingeyessarcasmsmiley:

Why do they hate America so?

14. Why is that, exactly?
What good comes from the stock market tanking, regardless of who the president is?

6. They want Obama to fail
They will cheer anytime that something happens to make their dream come true. On the bright side it's not all republicans, just the right wing fringe that are nothing more than idiots. A lot of republicans will give Obama a chance because they have been hurt by the bad economy just like democrats have. There will always be a radical part in both parties that want doom and gloom instead of working together. I really think Obama will prove to be a president that will not only bring both sides together to help this country, but will make those radicals so sick of seeing progress they will be miserable for the next "8" years!

8. Haven't you heard? It was all Jimmy Carter's fault.

Just as if Raygun or the Boosh Deadly Dumbo Duo had never come along. I have
honestly heard RWers claim we are in this current mess because of Jimmy Carter.
They named a river in Egypt after assholes like this.

7. Wanting your opponents to fail outweighs that. Plus there are other places to invest money.

10. I don't think there is anything more important to an R than their money
They are driven by greed. Everything they do is related to increase their money. They will sell out their children to preserve/enhance their holdings - witness what they are doing to our schools.

Nope - money is everything to an R.

America is not the end all of the world.

12. The Bush market. First day Dow closed at: 10578. Last day closed at: 7949.
Obama market: First day closed at 7949. Last day? We'll see.

13. I'm afraid it might go below even that before this mess is over
I'm expecting it to be undervalued for a while as all the bad debt churns through the economy and gets subtracted from all the paper wealth out there.

I decided to ride it out. Only time will tell whether I was right to do so or if I should have been socking it away in CDs and t-bills.

No matter what happens, we won't know who did the right thing until it's all over. It won't be all over until we get a rational economy back, one that discourages hoarding at the top while paying living wages to the bottom.

The GOP will never admit their own shitty ideology is the problem, and neither will the conservative Democrats who bought into it.

They'll be back in a generation or two. They never go away for good.

15. I went in today with 15% of my portfolio
Expecting a bounce if nothing more.

About three months ago, I put 40% in Treasury Inflation Protected Securities, and they have been doing real well, but I have no desire to sell them. At 3% real rate of return, they, along with my S.S., should secure a relatively good retirement even if my equity position is completely wiped out. If stocks come roaring back under Obama (like they did during Clinton), then I will be looking at retiring early.

17. I went 100% cash last April..rode out the worst of the market last year...
...have been getting back in a little bit at a time after the Dow hit 7800-ish and then slowly crawled back up...thinking that I am going to hold my portfolio where it stands...55% cash, 8% bonds, and the balance in index funds...see where this whole thing shakes out...
