Red, White, and BLUE...

(I wrote this short word picture to a DU friend. ...I'm resisting the temptation to over-edit; the perfect shouldn't be the enemy of the good. Hope you like it.)

Blacking and blacker, gray shades of dread
...Eight years of rainbows dying, eight years inbred
Bluebirds on the butcher block - all bleeding red
Sacrificed on "freedom's" alter - and left for dead

Black and bright, and shades of blue
Now dominate the canvas, now look like me and you
Red is blood and blue is truth, and white is every hue
I stamp my face against the place that we all helped undo
