"Fox News" says they will cover Obama objectively, just as they had Bush

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/19/business/media/19fox.html?_r=1

<snip>

Will the ratings remain steady with a Democratic president? “That’s kind of the million-dollar question,” Bill Shine, the senior vice president for programming at Fox, said in an interview Friday. “I get asked it a lot.” Expressing optimism, he said, “All I know is that over the course of the next four years, we’re going to do what we do really well — cover the news in a fair and balanced way and put on a very good product.”

John Moody, executive vice president for news editorial, disagreed with the notion of Fox as a voice of the opposition to Mr. Obama. He said that the network’s news correspondents would cover Mr. Obama objectively, just as they had Mr. Bush.

“Will we give this incoming administration a Greek chorus of exaltation? No,” Mr. Moody said, “but that speaks more about the other networks than about us.” He seemed to be referring to MSNBC, whose hosts have been criticized by Fox moderators for their praise of Mr. Obama.

1. So the Greek chorus of exaltation was strictly for **? Big surprise there.

2. I wonder what Moody thinks a Greek chorus is.
He seems to be conflating it with the echo chamber, which is quite different.

3. Obama and Robert Gibbs can take away Fox's White House press passes if they get too uppity
Fox needs to be reminded that a press pass is a privilege, not a right.

The first amendment guarantees you free speech, not access or a press pass.

8. Tuning in to Faux now.
They wouldn't say they're fair and balanced if they weren't, right? :sarcasm:

After eight years of propaganda and outright lies, it's going to take more than a new and deserving President... perhaps they might consider hiring some journalists? Probably not a bad idea for the industry, as a whole. Helen Thomas is lonely (but certainly appreciated).

13. *That* was an interview?
O'Reilly *interviewed* Obama? It was more like the Inquisition. I've never seen such a lack of respect shown to an elected official running to be the POTUS. The very obvious lack of respect for anything Democratic is why Faux News will never be shown on my television.

Our "Media" needs more Rachel Maddows.

18. Will the ratings remain steady
I guess it depends on how long people live. In general they don't pull young voters and an Obama administration is unlikely to attract new FOX viewers.

story was inspirational because he is "the son of immigrants."

Really! I may be the only person in American who noticed that, aside from the reporter he was speaking with, who briefly corrected him.

Granted, he was probably in shock since Obama has just been announced winner. But, it was more likely the result of the FOX news team being completely in the dark about anything other than their daily memo talking points.

will completely outsmart those fucking Fox fucks. He has no use for them at all and I don't think they will be able to play him. It seems to me they haven't been able to spin him thus far. I hope I see the end of them in my lifetime.
