I almost gagged...

I'm watching MSNBC, and this anchor with whom I am not acquainted was interviewing a former Secret Service agent who was cogently explaining how the President his protected and the philosophies, as it were, of the Prez's folks, and of those who are trying to protect him or her. After the interview, the lady says about the former agent, "Been there..."

Wow...just wow!

Ed Murrow, Eric Sevareid, and Douglas Edwards must be spinning...

What did that mean?

2. Hubris

It seems to be (perhaps) a cultural malady. It stuns me how so many people seem to credit themselves with being possessed of 'experience' when they've merely talked to or are acquainted with someone who went through hell. The idea that some deep (or even shallow) comprehension of what it's like to live in a war zone ("My uncle...") or a riot ("I saw it on TV...") or live through a disaster ("I've seen movies...") or other traumatic life experiences is a kind of plague. The hubris of TV dig-me's who regard themselves as 'pundits' because they've regurgitated some crap put on a script by a production assistant ... appalling.
