Obama meets with Liberal columnists
I wouldn't call Maureen Dowd, among others, exactly "liberal", but yea Rachel and Rich!

Obama meets with liberal columnists

Obama held a meeting with several columnists and liberal commentators this morning, following up on last night's dinner with conservative writers, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting. Some of the writers there today are clearly on the liberal side, while others more moderate.

Today's group included the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne and Eugene Robinson, the Wall Street Journal's Gerry Seib, National Journal's Ron Brownstein, the New York Times Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd, and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, among others.

The meeting was held at the transition headquarters.

1. Rich and Racheal can help him scrub off
after Kristol. He is sending a message to America. I am excited to see how this man governs.

5. Kristol, Brooks and Will have little to no influence
in the course of policy. Even with the neo-cons. Kristol has been ignored for years.

7. you're probably right.
the rest of his Chicago School Cabinet will represent neolibs by proxy. No need for them to get directly involved.

9. fair enough
though I wouldn't exactly call Brooks, etc, the "policy wonks"...perhaps you are referring to other transition meetings/cabinet picks.

And I'm not saying that meeting with these people makes Obama a hero or that it is anything more than symbolic, but people in the other thread were asking when the "liberal columnists" meeting would be, and well, here it is.

18. I'm not the one who named the OP, and I put "liberal" in quotes for a reason
try to keep up Cali, I know it's hard trying to type with all that oxygen depletion from chronic endocephalocolonopathy.

23. I considered putting liberal in quotation marks in the OP
but I figured it would annoy everyone much more here if I didn't.

15. The Libral policy wonks...
...are being integrated into his government. He's practically surrounded by Liberal policy wonks on a 24 hour basis. What in the world would he need a special "Liberal Policy Wonk" meeting for?

25. If you weren't stuffed inside your own subjectivity, you'd know that that was nonsense.
You know how many of Obama's cabinet picks are DLC? Four, out of a cabinet of sixteen.

how many of the others would you say are corporate shills?

I'm surprised to see you here. Don't you have some vapid flamefest to go start and abandon?

28. You know, Obama owes upper middle class small business people in the suburbs
and rural voters in places like Western Indiana for his election as much as he owes his "base" vote of DUers, though I question if that is indeed his base. The sooner you realize what liberal democracy is actually about, the less upset you will be.

11. They're columnists and commentators, which is a little different. But yes, "showing both sides" is
now considered being objective in journalism today.
