Unbelievable number of people calling for a job.
I set up sales offices and hire people to fill sales positions in those offices. I do this quite often.

I am getting overwhelmed with responses to my ad. And these people are really desperate.

This is heartbreaking.

1. Job Seeker's Rule #1 Don't sound desperate!
Wow... those must be some job seekers who haven't had to look for a job for many, many, years if they have forgotten how to hide the sound of desperation. Or, they have already been turned down so many times they are losing hope. Probably the latter.

2. It's awful.
I can hear the stress in their voices. I've seen this before, when I was in Ohio. But now, it's worse. Much worse.

5. Job seekers really should have the self awareness to not sound desperate.
OTOH, that doesn't mean an applicant wouldn't be able to do the job well just because they sound desperate. Not in today's workforce, anyway.

It's really terrible. I have been underemployed for years now, and I am currently looking for a fairly decent job.

6. I'm sure that they should and I'm sure that they do.
I've been hiring and firing for over eighteen years now, though, and I'm probably more able than most at picking up on the more subtle cues they're giving out. That, and the sheer numbers applying for the position....

3. You're here in Oregon, IIRC.
Did you hit the snow & ice, or as I predicted after the rain washed it all away?

7. I flew in from Houston to Portland
Then I rented a car in Portland and drove over the pass to Bend. The rain had created mudslides, but I made it okay.

8. Out of curiousity...what state did you open this new office in? Always like to hear the
on-the-ground, firsthand stories on this.

Thanks for posting.....we hear the broad numbers on the news but I think the personal stories really are more enlightening....(or scary :scared:)

9. I was getting tons of calls up in Michigan with regard to needing a
mentor (I am a real estate appraiser). The best I could tell them was that if they hadn't already taken the classes, not to. I really felt bad for them but my own load was gone.
