Have you ever talked to a friend who listens to Rush or Coulter?
Have you ever told a friend what you think of folks who listen to the crap issued by Rush, Coulter, and their type? I have. A long time friend of mine (Chemical Engineer, Masters degree from Penn State) used to Rush listen daily, saying he thought it was funny. It used to irk the hell out of me to walk into his office and hear that crap on his radio.

So one day I said something. This is from memory so its not an exact quote, but what I said to him was "Steve, that shit will rot your mind, you gotta quit listening to it." He laughed just like the other times I had told him the same thing. Then I went farther, saying "Look Steve, I'm not kidding. You say you think that shit is funny but its not, not at all. That shit is childish and dangerous, it incites hatred and promotes ignorance. Every time I see you listening to that shit I think a little less of you, I wonder if your judgment is still sound, and I have to tell you, I'm not the only one. So I'm just tellin' you old son, you gotta drop that shit and drop it right now."

It must have sunk in because he quit listening to mind-killing shit, well sort of. He changed stations to another one that played country music all day long, I did what I could but you can't fix everything.

3. I had someone I know who reads very little, doesn't get a newspaper, etc.
inform me that the subprime mortgage fiasco was all the fault of Barney Frank, the Dems and the Community Re-investment Act. When I asked the source of their information, it was what the sports anchors of the sports radio station they listened said!

Little kernals of twisted facts presented over time as truth sink in very effectively to the uniformed. That particular lie about the Community Re-investment Act as been very effective for the purposefully misinformative. I have heard Joe Scarborough attempt to flog that same point as well as many others. It is VERY easy to combat with actual facts, but no one seems to care to when they get this canard handed to them.

14. You're so right. There were 3 separate LTTE published last Saturday, all saying everything is the
fault of CRA and the banks being 'forced' to lend to the poor!

5. You gotta understand, I knew the guy for 20 years before Rush got a radio show
Long time friend who strayed for a little bit then got jolted back onto the path of righteousness (bwahahahahaha).

6. I listen to Rush myself while driving around at lunch.
For material largely.

Does Coulter have a radio show? Caught her on the Hannity show yesterday; I'm so tired of her.

7. Yes...
my mom and brother sometimes listen to Rush and Michael Savage. They encourage me to listen to Savage, saying he makes some good points sometimes while acknowledging his outrageousness as well. I'm going to tell them what you told your friend. You are definitely right about it making one question their judgment, when they go out of their way to regularly listen to these hosts' racist, homophobic and/or mysognistic rants.

8. When I learn that someone listens to Limbaugh, it lowers my estimation
of that person's intelligence.

10. We had these great neighbors who were Rush listeners
Nicest neighbors we ever had, well educated, smart, good parents, but they still listened to that swill.
(The guy went to work for a hydrogen fuel cell company!)

They've since moved, and now their new house is up for sale, I hope they turned out okay, considering that the company he worked for just laid off a bunch of people.

But I just never got the Limbaugh thing...They seemed too smart for it!

9. Before AAR, I used to listen to rush and hannity everyday. Nice to know
what they're up to. Listen to them, and by the evening you hear all repukes spewing their talking points.

11. I used to listen to them for fun and to find out what misinformation and talking points
they were working. It does help to be informed about your opponents thought processes, such as they are.

I have lately noticed, however that the average intelligence of their callers is dipping to new lows. It is taxing for both Rush and Sean to attempt to hold conversations with dittoheads and "Great Americans" who sound like they knit tea cosies with used dental floss and get 2 ply toilet paper for their birthdays.

12. I ride to and from work with a man who listens to Rush and Hannity every day
just so he can complain about the lies they are spreading. If that's his thing, so be it, but he always wants to tell me about their shows on the way home every evening. I finally had to tell him that not only was I not interested in listening to their show, I would rather not hear the second hand version of it either. It hasn't stopped him completely, but he rarely brings them up anymore.

13. I also have a friend who listens to Rush because he finds it funny.
But that friend also is completely unable to believe that such things as rigging elections and going to war under false pretenses can possibly occur - he calls me "too cynical" and a "conspiracy theorist".

He is a dear friend, but people like these are the sorts that enabled many crises of the past - they are not cynical enough, and have an oddly inordinate amount of trust in leadership. I think this is why some people can listen to the Rushes of the world as humor - because they are unable to see the true vileness and danger beneath the blabber.

17. my dad (a democrat) listens to Rush
I call him out on it all the time. He even followed Rush's lead by calling Bank of America "Bank of Amigo" after Rush was saying they give credit cards to undocumented immigrants.

I so wish AAR would come through near me (and my parents). My dad's too old to try to get him to listen to the radio online, and if AAR came through near his house, I would reprogram his car radio.

He calls listening to Rush 'opposition research'
