FOLLOW THE MONEY, Red States =net takers, Blue States = net givers

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/printer2/index.asp?ploc=t&refer=http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/211080_sciglianomoney.html

Above is a link to another fine article that documents the hipocrisy and the Federal tax dollar addicted economies of RED state America.

I believe the best way to kick an addiction is to go "cold turkey." It is time to sever the RED state mouths from the teat of the Blue State taxpayer. Let's help our friends in RED America go straight by cutting off their economic crack supply of Blue State dollars.

This is a perfect opportunity for RED state America to prove that they are economically viable, self reliant, and contributing members of the American Dream, instead of welfare queens, dependant on the kindness of Blue State strangers.

And in case you haven't noticed, a couple of so-called "red states" went for Obama.

9. The point is that the redest states- with the biggest assholes in Congress
-who oppose government involvement in all sorts of matters, are also some of the biggest recipients of federal largess.

Seems to me that when it comes time to dole out the economic stimulous monies- those states need to walk the talk, pull themselves up by the bootstraps- and engage in the rugged individualism that their representative have hoisted onto everyone else these past 8+ years.

3. I'm all for it, but we'd have to get our people out first.
There are a lot of awesome liberals living in red states.

8. Yes....
....there are a lot of us down here, and most of us wouldn't live in the north, west, or east for all the tea in China. Looks like the Civil War is doing well outside the south. As one "democrat" said here, maybe a natural disaster will befall one of our cities, and Obama can with-hold emergency aid. Get us out? Worked for Katrina. Idiotic, asenine shit seems to be the order of the day for many DUers when it comes to the south. Thanks, but no thanks.

10. Just fyi, senstive quick
Alaska is a red state that takes far more than it pays in taxes. Are they 'down there' with you? No. There are many others as well. Look them up. This is not about North vs South. This is about Conservative nutbags like Palin claiming fierce financial independence and calling people 'socialisits' while she distributes money from private comapanies and Bluestates to her pioneer mavricks, up as far north as it gets.

6. Bah
Some of our nation's greatest treasures are in red states. Should we stop spending federal money on places like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Arches, and Denali just to prove a point?

Large, sparsely populated areas will end up taking in more tax money than they contribute. It's just the nature of the beast. A shame those areas are also usually conservative.

7. I think it would be fair...
re: "Some of our nation's greatest treasures are in red states."

What does that have to do with fairly distributing our tax dollars?

I think states should get an equal percent back of whatever Federal taxes they put in.
Of course there would be things excluded, like the cost of military and any other "essential"
programs that can be voted on as being a national priority.

Too many pork barrel projects that run into the BILLIONS of dollars are handed out by Senators to every state.
It HAS TO STOP... NOW.

11. This Post Was To Point Out the Hypocrisy of Conservative Leaders In Congress
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 12:19 PM by mikekohr
It has always been a pet peeve of mine to watch conservative leaders rail against "big government," while standing at the front of the line for federal handouts. Governor Palin is one prime example. There are many more.

I'm from rural Illinois, a blue state giver. Locally we have people that continue to say we "downstaters" are being cheated by the Chicago area. They are unwilling to face the fact that the Chicago area taxpayers have historically always paid more to the state-treasury than they have received back. Likewise I understand without the redistribution of our national resources that entire swathes of the country would remain undeveloped backwaters. I just can't stand the douche bags that represent these states biting the hand that feeds them and wrapping themselves in a sanctimonious cloak of rugged individualism. They need to reminded of reality and that we are aware of the numbers.
