Do you (or relatives) hail from outside the United States?

This is probably the best kept secret on the Internet, which isn't easy, but I've felt remiss in not sharing it (and no, I'm not connected with them in any way, no pun intended).

http://wwitv.com/portal.htm

World Wide Internet Television is a portal that links streaming television broadcasts from hundreds of channels among probably a hundred different countries, from Zimbabwe to Iraq to the Faroe Islands (wherever they are). Not every country streams all the time, or is on the air all the time, although certainly the more well known ones are. You can choose by country (also by topic), and you get a list of streams and data rates, and you pick the one you think will work best for you. Higher data rates may not stream all the way over here, but you can watch anything from Italian soap operas to community television in Iraq. Check it out.

3. Please run a check out of interest
Go to the UK, look for BBC and see if you can stream our BBC live 24 hour news. The correct one will show our time GMT.

I trie it from here in the UK using that link but it took me in into BBC World which differs.

4. I tried BBC Headline News ("Around the clock TV news")
which is what I'm guessing you're referring to. Comes in just fine.

Note, however, that some of these open up multiple windows. If your sound is off, you may not notice it, but look to see if you have an open window that has the streaming. In my experience, most usually open up a separate window for streaming, and then yet another window for the home page of the broadcaster. If you have your sound on, though, you should hear it, and then you can switch through the windows so you can find the video.

10. When I do that
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 04:44 AM by edwardlindy
I get BBC World News video which isn't the home program. That means that our home news doesn't stream even using that link. By "home" news I don't mean local stuff : I mean the stuff which you don't get through your own media as and when it occurs for whatever reason. :hi:

edit to add - I tried it with our Sky News too the same thing happens : you just get a general edition.

11. I'm happy to try to help you
but I don't know the nuances of the BBC broadcasts - and goodness knows, they broadcast plenty.

This site is no guarantee of local programming; it's whatever the local station chooses to stream. Some are meant for general consumption and wider audiences. I've learned not to inquire too closely into the mind of the BBC, although they do have my eternal gratitude for Monty Python and the parrot sketch.

12. FWIW, the Faroes are about halfway between Britain and Iceland
They're a semi-autonomous part of Denmark. You're definitely getting local TV with them - population about 50,000.
