Andrew Sullivan on Warren
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/12/taking-yes-for.html

I think Obama is different. I think the earnestness and sincerity of his campaign, and its generational force, have given us a chance for something new, and I fear that in responding too viscerally to the Warren choice, we may be throwing something very valuable away far too prematurely. There is no question that gays and lesbians have made enormous strides in explaining who we are in the last couple of decades. There is equally no question that Obama has substantively committed his administration to more gay inclusion and gay equality than any president in history. We absolutely do need to be vigilant on this. But we should also understand Obama's attempt to bridge some gaps in America that the Clintons, with their boomer baggage and Dick Morris cynicism, couldn't and didn't. This is what matters. Do gays and lesbians want to be a part of this - or sit fuming on the sidelines at symbolic slights?

If I cannot pray with Rick Warren, I realize, then I am not worthy of being called a Christian. And if I cannot engage him, then I am not worthy of being called a writer. And if we cannot work with Obama to bridge these divides, none of us will be worthy of the great moral cause that this civil rights movement truly is.

10. I'm not
a Democrat or a Log Cabiner. I can't say I know much about who or what this guy is, but didn't see anything wrong with what he said, which is why I asked. ;)

14. And possessed of EXTREMELY poor instincts and judgment - he loved Bush for years
based on what he thought were his insights into Bush's character - Andy had premonitions & feelings that told him that Bush was great, Republicans were the only responsible party on economic and foreign policy, and war against radical Islam had to be unleashed around the globe.

And what do we have here? More premonitions and feelings about Andy's supposed "insights" into a leader's character.
I look at what they do.

5. Sullivan is an asshole and a Kool-Aid drinker...Obama has not proven
himself at all that he is on our side, and yet dimwits like sullivan give him the benefit of the doubt. He's pathetic.

8. Wow. I Don't Like Hillary Clinton, And Even *I* Thought Bashing Her Was Unnecessary.
How is Warren's bigotry the Clinton's fault?

Luckily, apparently, unlike Sullivan, I am NOT a christian, so I don't have to worry about praying with Warren. And as even a mediocre writer, I'd have NO trouble engaging Warren in a duel of words.

I don't want to build a bridge to bigotry, Andy. I want to build a WALL.

9. Sigh. It's not a matter of praying or not praying with Warren.
At least the people telling me to "get over it" are discussing the actual topic at hand. It's not about praying with Rick Warren; it's about giving him an elevated place of honor when he's been a leading voice crusading against equal rights.

12. He's nuts. Warren is the one who is not worthy of being called a Christian.
Warren is the cynical, moneygrubbing, arrogant, overfed charlatan judging people and sucking up all the attention he gets for it in order to feed his monstrous ego.
