US balks at backing condemnation of anti-gay laws
.
I would say this is unbelievable but with these guys nothing is. Here is their rationale

"According to some of the declaration's backers, U.S. officials expressed concern in private talks that some parts of the declaration might be problematic in committing the federal government on matters that fall under state jurisdiction. In numerous states, landlords and private employers are allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation; on the federal level, gays are not allowed to serve openly in the military." (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081219/ap_on_re_us/un_gay_rights).

So, let's see, when it comes to medical marijuana "Oh no sorry federal laws override your states rights because pot is such a dangerous drug", but when it comes to global rights for the gay community it is 'oh no we can't possible usurp states rights because that's not a good thing for the federal government to do'. Hypocritical is not a strong enough word to define these moral midgets.
