Rape suspect running club for teens

BROCKTON — A man facing child rape charges and who police say is running an under-20 dance club has partnered with a local Christian couple to bring a “gospel night club” to the city.

David Jemmott and his contact telephone number are listed on promotional literature for The G-Club, a “gospel night club” scheduled to open April 14 at Club 508 at 686 Crescent St. Jemmott manages the club, according to police.

Denise Seymour, 44, of Brockton, who co-owns Seymour Entertainment Inc. with her husband, Paul, was stunned Monday to learn from The Enterprise that child rape charges are pending against Jemmott.

“Oh, my God. Oh no. What a mess we've gotten into,” Denise Seymour said. “Obviously, he didn't share that with us.”

After learning about his background, she said they may look for another venue to hold the gospel music event.

Jemmott, then 51, was indicted in December 2005 and arraigned in Brockton Superior Court on Feb. 1, 2006, on one count of statutory rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton said.

The victim was 14 at the time of the alleged assault.

Jemmott pleaded innocent at the arraignment, Middleton said.

A trial date is expected to be scheduled Thursday.

When contacted by The Enterprise Monday, Jemmott denied any charges against him or being the operator of Club 508, where he manages teen nights on Fridays, according to police.

“I was never brought up on any charges on anything,” Jemmott said.

Right, his trial that starts tomorrow is because he was never charged with anything. :eyes:
