"If you've done nothing wrong, you shouldn't mind being investigated".
Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 06:35 AM by Philosoraptor
Where o' where have I heard that before?.... Oh yeah, the patriot act spying on citizens.

I assume this doesn't apply to those who consider themselves above the law, and refuse to answer questions under oath.

1. I think that is how
Some of Bush's own followers truly think ...it's simple and all black and white to them. I think this will split the last of his supporters.

3. nah - they just create mental boxes to shove inconvenient realities
in and wait for rush and faux to give them a rationale they can use to justify why its okay for bushco to investigate everyone without cause, but avoid, obfuscate and outright lie when they are being investigated.

5. I agree
there's another thread here about an AOL poll that shows only 18% say that Rove & Miers shouldn't testify---but 33% say that they think it is political dirty tricks on the part of the Dems--that means about 15% of these Kool Aid drinkers still think Rove & Miers should testify.

8. While I agree with your sentiment in this case
I can't help being reminded of the police tactic "If you have nothing to hide, you won't mind us searching your car, house, etc.".

I've been showing my children the ACLU video called Busted: a citizen's guide to dealing with the police. They and I stress never voluntarily give up any of your rights. I tried this tactic during a security clearance interview with someone from DSS a couple years ago. They were not happy, but since my interview was not mandatory, they couldn't force me.

9. I think this is our chance to turn things back on them
The repigs were saying all along that we shouldn't mind being monitored by police, and if we did we must be hiding something. So, if they aren't willing to be investigated, doesn't that mean by their own logic that they are hiding something?

14. This is a true statement if the following is true.
A crime is suspected or committed and there is some evidence leading to to resolution of that crime then a subpoena is appropriate.
In this case many obvious crimes have been committed by this administration.
What are they afraid they might say under oath? :dem:

18. Thank you
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I hate police and government intimidation. My children are still in their teens, but we've practiced what to say to the police if they want to search them, their car, or our house. The ACLU has a great video with different scenarios to teach citizens about their rights.

19. WHAT'S HIDING IN THE BUSHIES?
With bush refusing to allow Miers and Rove to testify opening, under oath and with a transcription - the question becomes:

WHAT'S HIDING IN THE BUSHIES?

If the firings were proper, and officials served honorably then there's nothing to hide and the bushies should be eagerly racing each other to the microphones and cameras to demonstrate their proper and honorable actions.

Instead, they remain crouching behind a bush. Is this how 'honorable' people behave?

20. The people that say things like that, are generally on of two
things:

1. Not expecting to be caught.

2. Ignorant jerks.

Everyone has something in their past they wish would just go away. bush and his DWI disappeared under his new license when he was Gov ov TX. The one I got in 1984 is still there in my record.

Hiding errors is a great American pastime. TR kept it under wraps for a long time that it was the Buffalo Soldiers that saved his tail on Kettle Hill.

FDR kept his polio as secret as possible.

Cleveland(not sure it was he), kept oral cancer from the public.

Reagan, Iran-Contra, and the idiotic lie that he single handledly brought down the USSR.

Clinton/Lewinsky

Everyday people have secrets they keep as well, from the tryst w/the neighbor to the bounced check and everything else conceivable.

bush is an arrogant jerk, and every time he takes his "rodeo" onto the tube, he hammers the pint home. Some cowboy, strut like an oaf and blame everyone else....ain't the cowboys I know out here in NE.

46. I, for one, do not believe in vengeance; but I am a stickler for Justice...
I don't care about past misdemeanors that harmed no one; but when I look at what the Patriot Act can do to citizens, I am appalled.

IMO, Justice trumps everything. I have been held accountable for past errors in judgement, I expect govt types to be held to the same standard.

I want to know about those that are elected, they can authorize a complete profile on me....why can't we do this to them?

27. We can make a big difference by parroting this phrase, everywhere and often.
A while back there wasn't a day gone by on C-SPAN's Washington Journal where some Kool-aid drinking right winger said, "If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't worry about it."

It concerned the wrong topic (warrant-less wiretaps) but on this issue, the Earl and May Ella types were absolutely right! :P :applause:

Yes, let's repeat this meme for it's the SIMPLE lines that catch on in the dumbed-down M$M of today?

If someone you know states the above, ask to see their purse or wallet. "But, why?" "Oh, if you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't mind my sifting through here." If they stammer on or feel strange, swoop in and make your point.

This is the best example to get people thinking about privacy rights I have ever come across.
