I'll have some comments in a moment about the president's comments today about the US Attorney Purge. Cable news talking heads are marveling at the his aggressiveness and seeming willingness to fight. But this is vintage Bush. The president has always pushed bluff and bluster and pretensions of holding a strong hand precisely when he's at his weakest.

If you expected anything different you wouldn't know the man.

2. And we have to face the same bs spin in the 2008 election.
The GOP nominee will be crowned king based upon shallow traits rather than substance.

3. Damn skinny there. This has the scent of Rove to it. Pump up the base with rah-rah fightin' words.
They got nothing, but it's time to show a little spine. I say good. I want to see Gonzo stick around a little longer too.
In fact, a whole year longer, if he's got it in 'im.

6. Right. If you've got a read on someone you call their bluff
Particularly when the stakes are high like this.

Make Bush show a hand.

7. Mr. Sound and Fury has no support on Capital Hill
If you listen closely to the lapdog press yapping, you might have heard that mid-whoof,
congress isn't stupid, they realize this is the first step to eliminating their power.

8. Also, on Executive Privilege, from Atrios:
"Any executive privilege claims can only theoretically potentially limit the scope of questioning, not prevent them from testifying at all. Working for the president doesn't give you magic immunity from everything."

Working for the Pres doesn't give you magic immunity from everything.

10. That's it in a nutshell
And White House folks can't be making public statements on issues of the day and then go scampering behind their mother's skirt of "executive privilege" when it suits them to avoid questions about their activities.

People with something to hide are usually up to no good, isn't that right Mr. Bush? Or doesn't your little aphorism apply to people in your administration?

9. All hat and no cattle
Same posturing, same puffed out chest against a cause that is not only ill-advised, but dangerous. Same as it ever was.

12. I marvel at bush's "aggressiveness and willingness to fight" like I marvel at a rabid dog.
Yes, the foaming at the mouth and growling is impressive theater, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a diseased dog.
