1. It's the million dollar question.
I hope that Obama taps this man of great talent, experience, wisdom and ability.

4. May be he is not interested in a role in government any more and is fine with
where he is? Or may be he will be called to serve for Hillary Clinton at State?

17. That was my thought also
He would go to State and when Gates leaves would take over there if he was then eligible.

5. intersting question. i was surprised at Richardson for commerce.
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 03:44 PM by daninthemoon
if all these big name supporters are getting appointments, he should certainy be in line for something. maybe deputy at state or defense? maybe intell?
now i'm not baggin on Richardson, he has been governor for a long time, but i thought his foreign experience was more impressive.

8. DOE?
Negotiating on nuclear weapons? Just a wild guess. I would think with his Bosnia experience he could be very helpful in stabilizing Iraq and Afghanistan.

9. Okay I have an OPTIMISTIC HYPOTHESIS
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 03:48 PM by BOSSHOG
how's that for fancy college edumucated smack talk??

General Clark will be eligible to be Secretary of Defense in 2010. (He has to be retired from the military for 10 years to take that job.) So President Obama makes the smart move to keep Gates for continuity sake and brings the General in from the bullpen at the appropriate (and legal) time. I base this on absolutely nothing but my optimism and the intense Hog Wisdom I got from four years of matriculating in the Ozarks.

10. My thought as well
I hope Obama places him in an under sec position, but that would be too obvious....
Still, we can't let this kind of talent sitting in the bullpen.

16. I very much doubt that will happen.
I think if and when Obama replaces Gates, it will be with another "nonpartisan" or "bipartisan" figure, not with someone who's been working for Democratic candidates and causes for the past several years.

And even if it's the case that Clark is slated for Sec. of Defense, there's no reason that he couldn't be given a different position now. In fact, it would make sense to do so instead of leaving him out for a year or more, during which he would almost be forced to take another job.
